thats alot to think about eh?
I'm sure that some Telus/RIM spinsters out there would try to rationalise the cost, but the fact remains that it's a high price for a non-touchscreen, current generation processor-based phone.

And you're right, you're better off waiting till the end of the year. New phones with better chipsets, a new network, and lower prices (courtesy of the new carriers) will all make this a wise choice.

I'm sure that the big 3 are doing everything they can right now to rake in the profits before they have to cut their prices at the sight of the new carriers.

    get over the touchscreen man-love.

I'd bet over hlaf the people in this thread are HAPPY that it does not have a touch screen.

And as far as waiting for December to get a better phone etc....why not wait till March and get an even better phone? Or wait till June 2010 and get an EVEN BETTER phone. Or wait till 2011 and get a phone that cooks dinner for you!!

I would be pretty pissed if this came with a touch screen. 90% of the reason that I want it is that it is an OS 4.7 phone without a touch screen. IIRC it is our only choice on Telus. The new OS 5.0 looks awesome, so hopefully this thing will be worth the hype and wait. I don't want to continue to carry around my massive 8830WE anymore!!

    1. I didn't say that the phone sucks because it doesn't have a touchscreen. I said that they priced it way too high for what it had (because it doesn't have a high-spec processor or a touchscreen).

    2. This is a different situation. Milfette was talking about signing another 3-year deal, so the phone is NOT the ONLY consideration here, we also have to think about the plan and its options. New carriers are coming and prices WILL fall. I can see phone prices dropping too, hence the overall recommendation.

You have the right to voice your opinion, but don't denigrate others when they voice theirs.

touchscreens are more convenient. its way easier to touch where u want to go than to always rely on that trackball

i hate touchscreen phones and i am not planning on waiting. i also agree that i dont see what kind of tech is packed into this phone to justify such a price.
This is the first time ive had a phone for so long and its mostly because i blew my renewals on crap phones twice, im not doing that again and my berry ball is faling out. Im also not interested in being locked in with such change in the market on the horizon. if i do want to leave next year, i have some bargaining room instead of them laughing in my face. its just insane that until now, my largest non computer, non home purchase was a tv. Now it will be a phone? really?

@keltron: get the tv for $100 less than anyone else and meet Gene Simmons... WIN! lol

I met this guy who works at Telus tonight and he is pretty much ignoring any kind of non disclosure agreement, if there is one.

Tour coming on 15, price is right.

Told me more about the new network and 25 phones. i had to go back to working but im gonna go keep chatting him up and see what happens. He already is gonna hook me up with a Tour! WHOOT!

yea i can get it fixed in about a half hour at the Telus place for $50 but i hate this phone and don't wanna spend money on it. When it stops scrolling all i have to do is flip it on its face and shake the pad down so it pops out a bit and its fine....LOL

Yeah I think you can buy a trackball online for around $10 with shipping. I went to a local TELUS dealer and got one for $20 w/tax and they installed it for me.

Was in talking to a salesperson at the Robson and Smythe Telus store today. They told me that the Tour/Niagra will be launched on Monday. When I asked whether that meant that it'd be available or just announced, I was just told again that it'd be launched. At the same time, I was also encouraged to show up at the store on Monday, so I'll take that to mean that it'll be available, at least in limited quantities, on Monday.

    We'll see.

I highly doubt this. My friend works at the Flagship store in Montreal and I asked him to check the incoming shipments and no Tours are in there. I highly doubt the release date will be Monday however I used to work there and there were sometimes surprise shipments sent by another shipping company and they didnt appear in the shipments. who knows??? I still think July 15th is more like it.
