I am pretty sure that Verizon will not activate other provider branded phones. This is also posted in the wrong section, and more than likely will be locked by a moderator.

I was doing some searching and didnt really see anything about anyone porting their phones from other carriers.
Maybe we can create an official list of people who have successfully completed this process that way it can help others in the future who want to do the same.
If this thread gets popular enough, hopefully the mods can sticky it
sooo...who's gunna start?

Um.. I'm pretty sure that most "successful" cases are also illegal which isn't something that Howard Forums condones. So I don't think a lot of ppl will be posting.
Actually....
This post talks about people activating Sprint and Alltel phones thru the *228 process. I saw the MOTO V9 from each carrier mentioned to be specific, but there may be more.
Actually there is nothing illegal about it, especially considering verizon's new yet rarely talked about open phone policy...Originally Posted by lngbrdr21
its technically not illegal, after doing some googling and reading articles....they articles specifically state the ability to port in phones from other brands, thanks to the open network they are trying to bring in
thanks for the info red.
im gunna give verizon a call tomorrow while im stuck in traffic...maybe they can give some feedback
This is VZW's "Any Apps/Any Device" initiative, known in the tech industry as vaporware .
This confusion can easily be avoided if you pronounce the word intended aloud. If it has a voiced Z sound, then it’s “lose.” If it has a hissy S sound, then it’s “loose.” Here are examples of correct usage: “He tends to lose his keys.” “She lets her dog run loose.”
Loose
not rigidly fastened or securely attached
Lose
to miss from one's possession or from a customary or supposed place
Also, just because a word has an "s" at the end, doesn't mean it needs an apostrophe.
I've successfully activated a Sprint branded CODE Red V3M for a customer without any problems.
WTF, I hate when people title threads like this. What is so "Offical" about this list of phones ported from other carriers to Verizon? Absolutely nothing!!!
It should be renamed something like..."What is the list of phones ported from other carriers to Verizon?" Or Lets make a list of phones ported from other carriers to Verizon.
ah mick, there you are. We are open to all, and want all to be open to joining VZW. After all, The Network is great(I was gonna say bliss, but you'd probably make another tired cult reference to that).Originally Posted by mick662

I successfully activated an unbranded Nokia 6255i on VZW back in 2005. Unlike Verizon's 6256i variant, it had full J2ME support, and no crippling whatsoever.
People have had varying success getting non-VZW phone activated on VZW. If it's essentially an identical device to one that VZW offers, it may be a little easier. It seems like people who know all the right things to say and talk to all the right people (and are PERSISTENT) seem to have a somewhat good track record at getting on-VZW phones activated.
I hope as things start progressing towards LTE that things will open up more and give people more choices.
thanks for the follow up guys.
Im trying to get as much research done as possible about it while I anxiously await the new Palm Pre. I want that phone so bad!! Either that phone or the Touch Pro
is there a certain fee that comes along when activiating phones from other carriers?
There's no fee as its no different than activating a VZW phone, just that with a non-VZW phone there's a high chance you won't be able to get it activated.Originally Posted by carzaddict

However, IMHO, the reason for the success is that VZW can't tell their V3M's from other V3M's by just the phone's ESN. In other words, Motorola didn't reserve exclusive ESN ranges just for VZW. Though, today, on newer phone models, the might.![]()
