under the table i would assume be a cash deal, no paper work.
Sounds fishy, I never trust those authorized sellers...and highly advise against them.

I was at an "authorized tmobile seller" booth in the mall (ie, not an official tmobile place). The salesman was telling me that they were temporarily sold out, then he lowered his voice and asked if I was looking to buy one under the table. I told him I wasn't sure. He said he could get one for $320.
What exactly does all that mean? I know you can buy a phone without a plan for a lot more than the 180 (though also more than 320), but then without a plan, isn't it basically useless? I'm kind of new to all this.![]()

i bought several phones from under the table mall kiosk's and never had a problem. since sim card can switch from different phones it shouldn't be a problem. thats how i got most of my cell phones listed on my profile. you can actually price haggle with them. thats what i do. but then again some you win some you lose.
Whats the benefit to buying one from them?Originally Posted by keepzero
You get the benefit of knowing you likely have a stolen phone, you helped screw the IRS out of a few dollars, and that you don't have a warranty.Originally Posted by johnmazz
Uh huh... So what's the benefit?Originally Posted by Rekna
Obviously I know there's something fishy, but there's a reason why someone would pay $300 under the table when you can get it for 180 legally, so I repeat my question..
i guess its the no contract part but i can tell u how to get a g1 without a contract straight from tmobile for $200
Well I guess that was my other question. Whats the benefit to getting it without a contract? You just have to get another contract with someone else right?Originally Posted by omega05
Some people don't like being tied up with contracts. I guess it's the ability to cancel anytime without any penalties, that's about the only thing I can think of.Originally Posted by johnmazz
If you switch providers you have to sign a contract with them unless you go pre-pay in which case the contract doesn't apply to any provider.
Me personally, I was OOC for over a year because there was no benefit in renewing my contract. I didn't want any of the phones 'till the G1 came out.
my contract ended a couple days ago and i didnt know you dont have to renew to keep using the service. i didnt renew
Basically hes trying to sell either:
1. Stolen phone
2. His own phone
It would be the same type of transaction if you went on craigslist and found a g1 for $320, called the buyer, and met them.
But I usually try to stay clear of indirect dealers sometimes.
FWIW you could most likely find a G1 locally for $250-$300, seems to be about the going rate.
Home ISP, RR-Ultimate WiFi, $90/mo | Verizon 4G, $30/mo Unlimited
School, $5,000/semester | Work
There is no need to renew and you will continue to receive the service and you keep whatever plan you had when you initially signed up.Originally Posted by omega05
I would only renew if I'm getting a new phone at a contract discount. Also, don't change your calling plan.. it will also renew your contract. But if you are getting a new phone for example the G1, then you can make all the changes you want.

wow thats horrible!
id call tmobile immediately and tell them about your experience. they might even extend you a discount for his insanely unprofessional behavior, lol. even though they aren't an official tmobile store, they are still being represented by this stall since they made them an authorized seller, no?
