You can give a shot. I want to do the same too but with the arrival of Nokia 900, Nokia 710 has been dropping prices like crazy. I may not make much money on ebay if the rebates get rejected. Also I would advice you to keep the T-Zones. It has a lot of advantages over the $10 plan. I am long due for a handset upgrade too and could not wait longer to decide. So I just bought a Galaxy Nexus on eBay.
Yeah i was looking at the lumia 710 free deal but its really not free at all. Since we can't send in the rebates thats $100 plus $35 tax, plus $18 upgrade fee it ends up being $160 and I can get one on craigslist for that price without using a upgrade. Same thing with all the other phones. After you pay the non-rebate price plus tax on full retail and upgrade fee there really is no point because you can't make much at all on them and If I wanted to buy one to use I could find comparable prices outright on Craigslist.

People have upgraded to a smartphone online and T-Mobile did not change their tzones. This only has worked doing the upgrade online, not via phone or in-store.

Granted T-Mobile could change this at anytime, but as of the last report they were not changing tzones when a smartphone was ordered online.

If so, can you give me advice on how to do this. If I can get a free phone that I can sell on eBay, I may be looking at getting the Galaxy Nexus instead of the Nexus S![/QUOTE]

It is safe to upgrade online. I have done it twice without any problem. Although it does come with baggage of fees and no rebate.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus, Only $430 for the next 10 hours.

Works with T-zones/web2go right out of the box. Also works on AT&T HSPA+

Think there will be a high chance of tmobile blocking it in the near future?

Do you think so ? I bought this last week from my hard earned $430 on eBay from the same seller and it was a non US Model (Nexus GT-I9250). Hope they dont block these. This phone will be delivered to me today and have high hopes of using it for a long time. :-(.

Has anyone upgraded their handset online and had TMO automatically change their data plan (and therefore lose T-zones)? I'm thinking about upgrading my handset once the right "deal" comes along where I can make a decent profit when I sell the phone on eBay, but do not want to risk losing my t-zones to make a couple hundred dollars. I understand that there will be an upgrade fee, shipping and tax as well as the no ability to get the rebate. Hopefully one of the pricier phones will have a great instant discount where it will be worthwhile for me to purchase and resell.

I just got this phone (Nexus GT-I9250) and it is awesome. T-Zones just worked after putting in the SIM. I didn't have to do anything. Overall I am impressed so far. I am still 'researching'. Any suggestions/tips/tweeks will greatly be appreciated.

Thank you ucfgnome. Seems like upgrading the handset looks possible without losing t-zones. I saw your posts on the thread you directed me to (very helpful for my questions btw). I believe you said you upgraded a few months ago, and seems like no problems so far, right? TMO still hasn't messed with your data plans? Also, you mentioned a month ago on that other thread that you were looking to upgrade on another line. Have you done that yet? I think I might upgrade the phone on my line first and if all looks good, I'll upgrade my wife's as well and then maybe we'll both be in galaxy nexus heaven.
