Thanks. Does this look compatible? I don't see AWS or 1700 but I do see HSDPA, UMTS and 2100:

Right. You have to get the version that has 1700 as shown here:

2100 is for use in Europe.
I really appreciate all your help. I am still not sure how to buy a phone that will work. The Nokia Nuron (t-mobile version) doesn't seem to be for sale from any regular retailers. T-mobile only sells it with a plan. Nokia doesn't sell it directly. I am wary of buying an unlocked t-mobile phone on ebay for a few reasons including that the IMEI may be blocked. Is it possible to buy an unbranded, unlocked Nuron version of the 5230 from a regular retailer? Sorry for all the questions.
First of all, this is like the third post that where you've mentioned IMEI being blacklisted. Where are you getting this? If you buy a branded Nuron, why would the IMEI be blacklisted?
Second, yes T-Mobile or their resellers are probably the only source of the Nuron as it is made specially for their network. You said you don't want one with a plan and yet you say you want to use it on the T-Mobile network. To do that you would need a plan at some point.
You can walk into any T-Mobile store and buy it for like $180 at full retail and not have a long-term commitment, and just pay month to month. T-Mobile won't even require that you activate it on a data plan. So I don't understand why you're trying so hard to find the device through another source?? You'd still have to go to T-Mobile and get a SIM card to put in it and activate that SIM card on some sort of plan.
Please clarify the above...
I understand now. I read about the IMEI blacklisting of t-mobile-branded Android devices and thought it applied to ALL t-mobile branded devices. I now understand that it doesn't.
My situation is that I have a t-mobile account with t-zones and a very low minute plan that I have been using for years. I would like to get a new phone to take advantage of 3G (I am currently using a Nokia E61). I thought that if I go through t-mobile they will force me to update to one of the current data and voice plans which will end up costing more than it is worth to me. I also didn't know I could buy the phone retail without signing up for a contract since their website doesn't seem to offer this.
Thanks again for your help.
T-mobile never requires that you change voice plans.I thought that if I go through t-mobile they will force me to update to one of the current data and voice plans
They only require a data plan change if you get a smartphone at an upgrade discount.
Since neuron is not a smartphone you can actually get it at full discount at keep t-zones. No problem.
I've been using mine for over a 2 months now on T-zones. I hope it keeps working. I checked my usage and I use about 300-700 meg a month. I hope if I keep it <1gb they won't bother me. I've even streamed pandora for my 40 min drive to work a few times and still have been under 1 gb. Oh and I upgraded to the newest stock ROM 2.13 3 weeks ago and the phones been blazing fast and has not needed to be rebooted at all. I love this phone. If you ask me, people are brainwashed against windows mobile by all the iphone and driod commercials.

Anyone know if there's a cap for the $5 Unlimited Web?? Has anyone even gotten to 5 GBs or 10 GBs on unlimited web?
