if you have nothing nice to say don't say anything at all - it doesn't help to be nasty.

no, the microsim does not have anything to do with the data plan. i am not stupid. but what phones use microsims currently? only smartphones, unless i am mistaken? i may be paranoid, but i just didn't want to call in and have the csr make the connection (or go to the store and have the same thing).

imo you can't be too careful. i've lost my tzones once before - i don't want to lose it again if i can help it.

i'm sorry if i'm not so nonchalant about my tzones as you are. csr's have added data plans without people asking.

Amazon is selling an 'international' Galaxy II [/URL] , but does international mean Telus meaning it will work on T-Zones?

Does the Telus have a specific model number I can search for?

The Amazon one is the best lead I have so far, but at $500+ I could opt for a Galaxy Nexus

Thank you. This is helpful. This is why I was apprehensive about calling or going to the store in the first place. Now I know my worries are not unwarranted.

I have some questions for you as below,

    1. When you said “I would use option 3 (the backup one) in the nvrebuild menu before erasing three partitions…” Why do you think that it was important and you should’ve? Do you think that you could’ve used that to restore your IMEI number? Can’t we use the backed up EFS folder on SD card to restore the IMEI #?

    2. I understand that removing partitions will help erasing the IMEI # and the phone won’t be recognized by the t-mobile and we’ll not see the up sale page. My questions were what are the consequences of removing the #? What are the types of things we can’t do or have in the future by not having the #?

    3. I would assume I need to unlock the phone with the code provided by t-mobile before I erase the IMEI #. Is this correct? Also, should I proceed with the rooting/flashing etc before or after removing the IMEI #?
PM him for a quick answer.

    1) from what I understand, it is something he regrets not doing. It could only help you. As to whether or not you can recover IMEI from it, not sure. It's not like he can "undo" what he did

    2) That is the golden question. IMEI is all 0's, not sure what will happen with OTA pushes and stuff. No one really knows until it happens

    3) Yes, definitely unlock it first. Rooting and flashing should not matter.

If you're that concerned just get a SIM cutter and cut it. How hard is that?

I apologize for asking questions that might be answered here already but there's a guy that will sell me his phone cheap and I have to buy it quick or it will be gone.

I'm totally confused about the various SGSII variants, for example, I thought the Skyrocket was the SGSII that you get from AT&T and it is also the SGH-I777. Apparently that isn't the case.

So, could someone please tell me, if I buy a SGSII with AT&T logo what am I getting and is that the same hardware that the t-mobile one has or is it different?

It's my understanding is that you can only lose t-zones if you agree to plan changes.
If they're trying to upsell, just say No. If they won't help, then walk out.
In my experience, most employees are phone people willing to help out customers, they're not trying to play police for the corporation. If they're paying attention, they may have a clue about the micro-sim, but they're not going to refuse to give it to you and force you prove you don't have a smartphone unless they're on a power trip.
I just say I lost my phone and I need a replacement sim to use in my backup phone.
If you have a sim, call into CS and say the same thing. Give them the new number and you're good to go.

If they do ask you, just use a phony phone name e.g. HTC Shining 321 bought from HongKong on your recent trip there. You cannot look up the IMEI number because you dont have the phone with you right now.

I tried using the service menu on a demo T-mo SGSII, and could not get it to erase the number. Do you have to root before going forward?

Note: I also tried, and was unsuccessful, with rooting and deleting the /efs folder on a SGSII and Exhibit II.

i would assume youd have to have root since you're messing with system files.

I guess I am long overdue for a handset upgrade, and I'm thinking I can get one of the free phones and then sell it to help me buy a replacement for the Nexus One. I just talked to the TMO rep and of course they said that if get one of their free phones (right now it's the Nokia 710) that I would have to change my data plan (from $5.99 tzones to the $10/month plan). Has anyone upgraded their handset and kept their t-zones? If so, can you give me advice on how to do this. If I can get a free phone that I can sell on eBay, I may be looking at getting the Galaxy Nexus instead of the Nexus S!

I have read some posts here where people have bought Nokia 710 on TMO ONLINE (Not through store or TMO rep)and have been using it with T-Zones successfully. However the rebates are questionable. You can give a shot. I want to do the same too but with the arrival of Nokia 900, Nokia 710 has been dropping prices like crazy. I may not make much money on ebay if the rebates get rejected. Also I would advice you to keep the T-Zones. It has a lot of advantages over the $10 plan. I am long due for a handset upgrade too and could not wait longer to decide. So I just bought a Galaxy Nexus on eBay.

Don't go with tmo rep for upgrade if you want to keep the tzone, they will add the data plan as required for next following 24 months to your account !
