    Prepaid SIM + Phone + ??? = unlimited Cellular data for $1/day?

This is something I read about and was toying around with. There have been several places I've gone that my sprint phone will not pick up (or will default to verizon, which gives me NO data service (or if i have a PPC phone, like when I had the Q, I get dumped to 1xRTT on verizon)

I have Sprint, which works 95% of the time, and I was considering getting this for the other 5%, since you only pay on days you use the phone. Would this work or does T-mobile charge you for Data differently than voice on prepaid plans? Also can it roam onto ATT's HSDPA networks or would I be stuck with only Tmobile's thinly-spread(?) 3G network?

Lastly, if this works, do I need a specific phone for it? (like sprint I have to have PPC/PALM-driven phone for PDA net, or Samsung a900 where I can disable Modem NAI)

There is currently no data for prepaid users whatsoever. The only data on PAYG is the freebie T-Zones (now web2go) that only allows access to a few sites (CNN, yahoo, ESPN...). A few users have been able to tether with this and the EPN.tmobile.com APN, but that loophole has now been closed.

You could start a Flexpay prepaid account, but that would run you <$30/month.

You can use any unlocked/t-mobile branded 850/1900mhz 2G EDGE GSM phone with T-Mobile (slower speeds) or a handful of T-Mobile branded 3G phones (Nokia 6263, 3555, SE tm506)

I suppose you could try using the sidekick $1/day and use it on another device?

That would be $1 a day for unlimited text with no data and .15 a minute.

Unless Coolphone can tell me how people get unlimited data on prepaid without even a positive balance, this just isn't an option for me. The whole point was paying jsut a dollar or two because I wont have more than a week that I'd need it, longer-term than that I'd set up full-blown service (and provide my own device) so there would be no contract and I could terminate it after 1-2 months. Ive found very few places that dont have some for of Verizon or Sprint coverage (I've got a prepaid data account on verizon that I *can* activate, it just costs me a lot of money ($25 up-front) when I want to start it, though it lasts like 6 months then, and locally I cant use it because Verizon capped their speed here...

No, it's not. Try using the hiptop APN settings on any phone while using an SK plan... You'll be pleasantly surprised. If you want proof search for Sidekick plan iPhone on Modmyi.com's forums.

The .15/min calling part is true, though.

Is this a prepaid plan? I dont expect to be using it much, if at all, most months.

Works on my Nokia N95-3. :-D Hope that's not a loophole to be closed at some point down the road. The price isn't bad considering it's 1 $ every single day / 365/366 $/year for just data alone. Are Sidekick users charged data roaming charges like postpaid users in Canada & Mexico?

IIRC the prepaid SK Plan doesn't even allow for roaming outside of the US.

Whoops. Looks like you're right. Just checked T-Mobile's website for that. Seems it does work only here. Maybe T-Mobile ToGo will actually have some data by next the time I go to Canada (spring or summer of this year)...

Can anyone reccomend a good QWERTY phone to use with this for web-browsing and SMS?

preferably with HSDPA (or does sidekick plan block HSDPA access...?)
