switching to a sidekick

Alright so i've had my plan since march of last year. 2 yr family plan. So i have the t mobile dash right now and I want the sidekick. i will buy a sidekick 3 unlocked from ebay. will it work?

Yes but you will have to add the data plan again which has gone up to 34.99. The data plan for your dash (if you have one) will not work.

This, and the outrageously outdated hardware was the reason I left the Sidekick. He will be missed (his keyboard was second to none) but I can use the 100MB plan with unlimimited texts on my iPhone and after I changed the APN, T-Mobile doesn't track my data usage so it is technically unlimited.

Enjoy though, the Sidekick 3 was a cool phone when I had it a few years back.

what do you mean 34.99 i pay for the tzones hack only so 4.99 a month. how much is sidekick service?

The Sidekick data plan is $34.99 for unlimited web and messages. No T-Zones hack will work since Sidekick data runs thru Dangers servers and not T-Mobiles data. No Sidekick plan means no data and flaky operation on your device.

So your telling me that with my family plan i will have to pay $34 more a month for a sidekick? I have the unlimited family text. Will this not work with it? I dont care about the internet any more.

Yes text will work under your unlimited family plan-Just no data or IM. also if you restart your phone you will loose your contacts and be greeted with the waiting for activation screen on powerup

The issue with that is if your phone freezes (which it will, I have had several) you will lose all contacts and texts that are not on the Sim card. That means other than 30 text messages and if you saved your contacts to sim, which is a pain.

I know you may excited to get a Sidekick but if you are not going to get the data plan don't.

Tip: You already have T-Zones for 5.99, don't remove it. You WON'T be able to re-add it later.

With that said, get a different phone that can take advantage of the T-Zones hack. Like a G1, Dash, any WinMo phone, or an iPhone. It will be cheaper and definately not crippled like the Sidekick is without the data plan.

It is a lackluster device with the data plan. Without it, it is practically useless.

alright well I went into the t-mobile store and they told me that it will all be fine if I save my contacts to sim like you said. They told me how to bypass the opening screen where it asks for you to get the sidekick data plan(press and hold the menu button and press l). They also said my unlimited text would still work for it. I only have one year left on my plan and this is what I want. I got the d-wade sidekick I wanted and I can text better than before. I did not take of the t-zones service because I can switch between the two phones. Thanks for all your help

I have the sidekick ID with umlimited txt, seems to work fine, i don't have the restart problem, or the freezing problem.
