Hard cable Unlocked Sidekick lx wanting update!

    Hello
I have an Hard Cable Unlocked Sidekick Lx that i bought on Ebay
Now that The data is gone from Canada.
would it be possible to ask a fellow Sidekick Lx user in The USA to momentarily let me slide his or her Sim in my phone just to get the Video update and such???
Would it work, and what would be the consequences ?

In theory it would work as long as the sim had the sidekick plan activated on it. Just sticking any tmobile sim in it wont work. Without the sidekick plan the phone wont connect to the danger servers.

Second problem is exactly how long it would take for the update to be pushed to the phone. It could take a few weeks. There is a way to force the update by turning the phone on and off over and over until the download starts.

It's a little more complicated than that unfortunately. T-Mobile recognizes your device by serial number. I know this because I coudln't reactivate my data service when my Sidekick came back from repair until they had the new units serial number. Your best bet would be to purchase a prepaid SIM, register it with your Sidekick, and the update should eventually hit your mobile. I'm not exactly sure how long it would take for the Danger servers to realize you don't have the update but I'd guess a couple of hours.

There's also the slight problem of the LX still being linked to dzzone's account and will continually ask for dzzone's password until the LX gets unlinked from the account. Afterwards, it will be forever linked to the account of whoever used their SIM to update it until that also gets unlinked. Which, of course, is not a fun process to do from Canada.
