    Does TM506 have a 3G indicator?

    I do not live in a 3G service area, however I will soon be going through an area on the fringes of a 3G area. Is there any indication on the TM506 about availability of 3G service?

    Depending on what firmware you're using it does. If you've done any unlocking or debranding you more than likely have enabled it. Also if you're phone is running the latest firmware it will. I'm not sure if it's a 3G icon or the big "H" that my phone has, the only time I've seen the "3G" icon on my phone is when I had an AT&T SIM card in it, strangely enough.

    I am using firmware R3CA033, have not done any unlocking or debranding. I have the USB cable and have tethered to my Linux laptop. I use an XML editor for editing Linksys VoIP adapter configuration files, but I have no idea how to access the Customize.xml in the TM506. Can I access my Customize.xml file using the USB cable?

    If T-Mobile 3G coverage was rather spotty at that time, maybe they didn't want questions from customers who noticed the 3G icon going off frequently.

    Yes you can, and much more. Just follow the instructions on Sticky: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1500901 . Great tutorial thanks to Scottish Skyeandce and many other members that contributed with their feedback.

    you can search Customize.xml I made (the 5 threads I made about 2-3 months ago)
    use your xml editor, highlight EVERYTHING within the "code" (including the space before the parameter)
    copy and paste accordingly, and save as
    Customize.xml
    Customize_upgrade.xml
    you can look at the sticky for more details (good for de-branding)

    Without having to change customize.xml i think you can go to:

    Menu -> Settings -> Connectivity Tab -> Mobile networks -> Select Network

    If you're in a 3G area it should show T-Mobile with a 3G icon on the left.

    Thanks for the tip, that method will do for now. I may make some changes to the Customize.xml file at a later time. It would be great to get the service level indicator icons working.

    BTW, nice job on the wiki article (Sony Ericsson TM506 Debranding Guide).

    if you are on first version R3CA033 T-mobile TM-506.
    Just simple edit Customize.xml
    change the "true" to "false"
    <hide-3g-icon>true</hide-3g-icon>
    3G network display should show up when you are on 3G network.
    I don't understand why T-mobile's purpose to hide 3G network (in first version T-mobile)

    No need to do debrand and flashing, as other people suggest to link other thread.
    For R3CA033 (the best T-mobile version firmware . if you flash to CB version or T-mobile lastest version, you cannot get back this firmware forever.)
    Just simple edit Customize.xml (read out by a2uploader)
    change the line
    <hide-3g-icon>true</hide-3g-icon>
    change "true" to "false"
    upload the Customize.xml back to the phone where it is.
    3G network indicator should show up when you are on 3G network after full reset.

    This is false information. Of course you can get back R3CA. It is available on topsony.com and topse.ru.

    And why would R3CA be superior to Cinn Bell version is a question you'll have to answer, because R3CA lacks things found in Cinn Bell which is why people starting using it for debranding.

    as long as CID is the same, you can install WHATEVER version
    I can flash back to R3CA if I want, but I don't think it's necessary

    Yes, you can install the older version with third party hacking tools.
    I can flash the phone to compatible firmware, even CID is different.
    Do not try to sell davinci-team credit here!
    However SEUS does not support downgrade, that I was talking about.
    the thread title is about 3G indicator.
    As I said it is easy to enable 3G indicator without flashing firmware or debrand

    I didn't remove any of the code. Just changed them all from true to false. Saved the file as Customize_upgrade.xml and dragged it into the custom folder on a2uploader. Then restarted the phone and the 3G icon was there. I didn't make any other changes. I'm using the TM branded firmware.

    <network>
    <settings reg-path="/apps/network">
    <hide-hsdpa-icon>false</hide-hsdpa-icon>
    <remove-system-mode-switch>1</remove-system-mode-switch>
    <hide-dual-plmn-nwlist>false</hide-dual-plmn-nwlist>
    <hide-3g-icon>false</hide-3g-icon>
    <hide-gprs-icon>false</hide-gprs-icon>
    <hide-edge-icon>false</hide-edge-icon>
    </settings>
    </network>
