Not on the T-Mobile 6301. The option is there on a Nokia original unbranded 6301 but it looks like T-Mobile removed it from their firmware. Can't imagine why.

Sorry if this has already been asked, I couldn't find a thread about it. I wanted to find out if there is a way to turn off the GSM and only connect to wifi on a Nokia 6301?
Thanks

Where in the menu system does the unbranded phone have such an option?Originally Posted by norbi99
The reason why I'm asking is that Nokia just released (on 3/2) version 8.22 of the firmware -- which I've happily upgraded to.
You can *finally* reconfigure the right key to something other than t-zonesThere's no further unbranding that I've noticed with the update...
Was wondering if the GSM radio option is buried somewhere I haven't looked yet.
It is under the WiFi menu -> WiFi radio.-> 1. WiFi Preffered 2. WiFi Only 3 Wifi off. (or someting along these lines)
Where did you see the 8.22 release?
Is that for the 6301b version?
WiFi menu only has 'On' and 'Off'. Oh well...Originally Posted by norbi99

Zap it via the Nokia Software Updater.
What advantages are there for upgrading to the 8.22 version of the firmware? I was looking into it, but I'm not sure what I'd lose versus what I'd gain.
Be careful. I upgraded my phone and killed the wifi calling. I sent it back to tmo and received a replacement that works again.
I believe the reason that have disabled "wi-fi" only is that it makes it difficult to use the phone, for free, oversees. If you can't turn off the GSM, you risk oversees GSM roaming fees, even if you only want to call home for free over wifi.
Im in the same dilemma... Upgraded to 8.22 and Wi-Fi wont work now...Originally Posted by DuggaD

I made the same dumb mistake of assuming upgrade = better, then found out that I had killed UMA for 2 new 6301s. Fortunately, a little surfing dug up this solution, which worked for me and at least a couple of others.
As a word of warning, if you have a factory 6301 and have UMA working, DON"T upgrade the firmware yet!
