I don't need to try this, but this is essentially the steps I took when I upgraded my phone running 2.2 software with 2.11 baseband (from gbadude's original custom ipsw before YS was released). I was able to upgrade the baseband from 2.11 to 2.28 using this method, WITHOUT having to re-jailbreak or restore.
So, its possible that this same method might work for 2.30 to 2.28 reversion. But of course try it at your own risk. If it does work, I'm sure there will be a few happy people who "accidentally" upgraded to 2.2.1 and can't unlock with YS now.
I remember reading on other forums the bbupdater method did not work. So didn't try it.
Maybe someone here who's tried this method can share their experience and outcome.
cheers.
It worked for me...
I ordered a replacement iphone from AT&T via the premier upgrade plan and it came preloaded with 2.2.1 with 2.30 firmware and so I could experiment with the same... and so I uploaded the content on HoFo for ppl who want to try... there is always a factory restore if it does not work right?
I did the same thing jomo did and have updated my baseband this way but not downgrade. I remember when 2.2.1 came out I mentioned this method in a thread and it was ridiculed.
I'm still on 2.2 with 2.28 baseband so I can't try it.
My guess is that this does not work. I believe if it worked there would be much more press about it, and the Dev Team would likely have something on their blog as well. Sorry, but one random poster won't convince me.
Why do people post things like this, are they trying to give false hope, want people to brick their phones, or is there some maliciuos code included? I don't get it???
Alright - I will delete this post... it is too flaky, works for some does not work for others...
Can someone help me delete this post?
You can't, mods can. That being said, it's best to keep it on. You say it works for some and not for others. If it has worked for some, they should post their results. As it stands right now though, there is no proof it's worked for anyone. If that's true, then this thread should stay so that others can know that it doesn't work and not waste their time (or worse mess up their iPhones).
