Adding Apps to Moto V950 / Sprint

Feel like an idiot! Had worked with the iDen series for years with the tools from Moto, and just got hold of a V950 (CDMA, not iDen this time). Used to be able to load Java apps easily. Now I'm clueless. The old Motodev software isn't going to work for me now.

I'm quite anxious to get Opera Mini loaded on this thing. I've seen a couple of web sites that claim to move the JAR application of your choice to you over the air. Do these work? If not, what host side application do we use now to move JARs to these phones? Have USB cable in hand -- hoping for help!

More to my point ... if you HAD one, how would you get it loaded?

With regard to Opera Mini, just go to http://mini.opera.com using the phone's built-in web browser. UNLIKE iDEN phones, you'll be able to download and install the app from there.

Regarding apps where you already have JAD/JAR files on your PC, I would suggest (but haven't tried) placing those files on the SD card, and using the File Manager under Tools to open/select the JAD file.

Indeed! It appears that Sprint is a good bit more forgiving about loading 3rd party applications across the network than the folks at Nextel ever were. With iDen, it was necessary to use the Moto development tools to move an application across the USB interface in order to load an application not provided by Nextel via their network.

This is going to be a breeze. Thanks for pointing out what should have been obvious. I've been looking for a tool that doesn't even exist!

This does make it much easier. However, one advantage of having to download the JAD/JAR files for my iDEN phone, and load them with iDENJAL was that if a new version didn't work right (or I just didn't like it) I could always revert to the previous version (assuming I still had it on my PC). By doing OTA installations, you only get access to the current version and can't revert to any previous version.

    Have you tried Rumkin?

I used to use this all the time on my rant (MAY IT REST IN HELL XD). It made the phone a little bit easier to handle. I know that this is a dead post, but it didn't have the easiest answer so try h ttp://rumkin. com/tools/sprint/ (sorry about the spaces, I'm pretty sure I can't post links yet anyways. I'm more of a multi-forum stalker. Good Luck!
