Question Does this Pantech Matrix C740 Unlock unlock the SIM or the Phone?!

    Hello all.

I'm a Pantech Matrix C740 owner, who's looking to unlock my phone. My question involves an unlock that was posted in these forums:

    4. SIM Unlock Process - Click Yes.
    5. Enter 8 digits unlock code and click OK (soft key)
    6. Re-enter the unlock code.
    7. Unlock Process Complete
    8. Click OK (soft key).

where do u get the 8 digit unlock code?
I notice that both in barney22's response and on the phone, I'm seeing the words SIM unlock. Wouldn't that just unlock the SIM Card?

Is this the sort of unlock that would allow me to use the phone on T-Mobile, or another carrier that uses SIM cards?

Thanks in advance for any answers you may have!

Don't worry, this *should* be a phone unlock process. I just went through the procedure, and can add the following that may assuage your fears. When you enter the unlock mode, the following message will be displayed:

"You are about to SIM unlock your phone. Entering the unlock code incorrectly five (5) times will result in the permanent lock of your phone. Continue?"

Then, you will enter the unlock code (obtained from AT&T) twice, and you should receive the following message:

"Unlock process complete. Your phone is now unlocked."

I still have to verify the process is complete (gonna test with gf's Tmo card).

    Hope this helps.

All I did was call AT&T tell them that I was giving my son my c740 because I was gettinganother phone & gave them the imei # & they gave me the unlock code. Then I follwed the directions in the post on how to unlock the phone & entered it & it worked the 1st try.
Now I need to know is what can I do with the phone since its unlocked?

People primarily unlock phones to free them from a particular carrier. It's useful if you want to use a Tmo phone with an AT&T plan, or vice versa. It's also good if you travel out of the country a lot since you can use your phone with local SIM cards.

Thank You. Do you happen to know how I can download games to this phone? I can bluetooth 'em to the phone, but when I do they go to the other file slot not the games slot on the phone. The format is J2ME & I'm told eveytime that what I've downloaded is the wrong format. Even when its a J2ME Java format. I've found tons of J2ME format games for my phone, but as I said, when I download them they go to the other file slot not the gameslot in the phone's memory.

1.how do I know if mine is the c740?
2.I want to unlock it so I can use it internationally; does anyone have experience with this? especially in Costa Rica?
3.What is the process of using it in another country once it is unlocked?
    THANKS!

    Once I unlock the Pantech:
    1. Can I continue to use it with my currect ATT plan;
    2. Should I simply be able to buy a SIM card from a carrier in another country, along with their plan

Unlocking the phone doesn't affect how it operates on your current network. When you travel, if you have enabled international roaming w/AT&T, it should work, though it will be exorbitantly expensive. You are better off purchasing a SIM card locally and using that instead.

    unlock code

Yesterday, I called ATT and was given the same unlock code as on this thread.
Today I received a call on my cell regarding the above phone call from someone in "Quality" with ATT. He asked for identifying information, which I did not give, and he then proceeded to give me a different unlock code.
I haven't tried either of these codes.
    Any ideas
