    G705 Sms

    Hello everyone how are you,
    I picked up a g705 a few days ago and as of right now im pretty happy with the phone.. Even tho texting is kind of a pain since i had a w810 with "real keys" instead of the flat key pad.

    My question.. I thought the the sms for the g705 was supposed to be more like the iphone sms... I think they call it "threaded view"... you know what i mean? like the sms msgs on one page like bubble threads??

    even on the youtube video they make it seem like that.. here check it out
    it starts at the 20 second mark.. is it a setting that im not enabling or something?? Thank you

    after gathering some info and adapting a technique someone else used, here's what I did to get it to work on my G705:

    Step 1. Change CDA and re-flash
    Use this as customize_upgrade.xml and upload to tpa/preset/custom using a2uploader:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <customization>
    <info>
    <cda-number>1217-0536</cda-number>
    <language-variant-name>WESTERN-EUROPE</language-variant-name>
    </info>
    </customization>
    then run SEUS and choose to re-install anyway if it says you have up-to-date software already, let it flash. This step is necessary to ensure your phone has the latest Western Europe generic firmware, since it includes the threaded SMS. (Conversations)

    turn on your G705, make sure all is well.

    Step 2. Enable Conversations view

    Unfortunately the threaded view is hidden, even though it's there and ready to use. Here's how to enable it.

    use this as customize_upgrade.xml and upload it:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <customization>

    <registry>

    <unified-messaging>
    <settings reg-path="/apps/msg/unified-settings">
    <editor-mode type="str">unified</editor-mode>
    <limited-number-of-recipients>999</limited-number-of-recipients>
    <limited-short-messages>10</limited-short-messages>
    <email-address-mms-trigger>false</email-address-mms-trigger>
    <validity-period-mms-trigger>false</validity-period-mms-trigger>
    <delivery-report-mms-trigger>false</delivery-report-mms-trigger>

    <conversations>
    <enabled>true</enabled>
    <is-preferred>true</is-preferred>
    <fontsize>1</fontsize>
    </conversations>

    </settings>

    </unified-messaging>
    </registry>
    </customization>
    Turn on your phone, reboot, and you'll have Conversations view.

    Sarma that was really cool of you to take the time out and help me out with this I really appreciate it. Really.
    I will attempt this when I get home.
    Do you have anymore so called tweaks that I can use to make the most out of the phone. Thank you so much

    no problem, I was just as frustrated as you were about a week ag

    btw I forgot to mention, after doing what I outlined above you will still be able to go back to the classic way of reading SMSes and can switch back and forth, so you have nothing to lose.

    there isn't much else for the G705, but with the W715 coming out now, we will be able to flash the G705 into the W715 as well.

    Where you frustrated for the same reason as me?
    I'm a funny guy I hate change and going from the candybar w810 to this slider with flat keys is driving me insane. I wanted to wait for the w995 but was getting the itch to buy something after 3 years.
    If I could get me a candybar SE with the same feature as the 705 then maybe I would go for it

    haha, your story sounds like mine. I've had the W810 for 3 years and got sick of it, and saw the G705 and it had everything I wanted, except for autofocus.. the 3.5mm jack would've been nice too (that the w995 has).. but I'm very happy with the G705, especially since I got it for $249, and I'm sure it will be quite some time for the W995 to drop to that price. at least until then, I've got a nice new phone.

    i've had it for 2 weeks, and am slowly and hopefully getting used to the keypad.

    glad it worked out for you!

    as for the camera, maybe you were spoiled by my Sarmad camera drivers on your W810 seriously though, the K750/W800/W810 camera module was amazing, and yes autofocus is a big part of that for close to midrange shots. In good lighting though (especially outdoors), your G705 will get good shots also. I admit I've been spoiled by the heavily modded W810 camera driver, but hopefully we'll see better camera drivers for low light conditions soon. i'm just too worn out and stretched thin to get back into the driver modding scene. time to let others do it.

    that said, there is a better camera driver for the G705 that gets better colors, and gives you a very fluid 25fps video recording at either 320x240 or 352x288.

    as usual, the camdriver0.dat goes into ifs/settings/camera

    If the WEstern-Euro firmware has the conversation hidden, think it'll work with the HK firmware?

    Haha phone modding ftw. I'm using that camera driver too but I have no idea how to get a balance of good FPS and good pictures. I'm looking for some good acoustics driver.

    I was going crazy when I lost the HK firmware on my G705 and was replaced with the Western-Europe one. I don't know why, but I like the HK firmware more. All I need is my songs to be able to show up in Chinese and Japanese and that's it. I also need the Messenger, which Western-Europe doesn't have.

    Sorry for going off topic.

    Edit: Just tried it and the conversation works with HK firmware as well.

    cool, that should be good news for folks who need Asian language support.

    My G705 came with China firmware out of the box (I guess the dealer I bought from got them from China?), and it didn't have conversation in it.. so I chose Western Europe to flash to and it worked. Looks like HK is good too.

    unencrypted W715 firmware is already available so we can flash to that for free (I'm pretty sure any patches/mods in the future will be headed to the W715 and not the G705, and we would of course gain Walkman features and better acoustics), but I don't see any G705 firmware anywhere.. no way I'm flashing to W715 without knowing I can come back to G705 just as easily.

    what's the "Messenger" you're talking about.. some IM client?

    Where do you find the firmware? I can't seem to find any of them, except for the NORDIC one. Not that I have anything against them, but I prefer Generic or HK firmware so I know that Chinese and Japanese will show up properly when I'm listening to songs. Even though I can't read them, it's better than having boxes and random characters.

    The Messenger application is a IM client by Windows Live or so it seems.

    Is there a way to delete unused/locked applications or mp3 phones?

    Hey sarma do you think that cam mod is worth it? Are you running it and are you happy with it? You made me laugh that we are in the same boat learning all the new keys. It just seems like when I txt my thumb can't reach the 9 key and my thumb feels like it's about to break LOL

    Where did you get your phone for 250. I got mine for 302 with tax Incl.

    Btw I did have that cam driver on my 810!!! Great job!!!

    Oh another btw. I spoke to SE today and they told me the 995 was pushed back again to the Second HALF of 2009!

    yep, the only W715 I've found is Nordic as well. Although, I guess you could use the same CDA change to HK and see if SEUS flashes over to HK, but I don't think any HK firmware exists for the W715. A quick check to see what Wotanserver has would probably be a good estimate of if it exists or not.

    can you confirm its a Windows Live client for MSN on your G705? That would be worth me switching over to HK firmware.. I only need English anyway, so HK would be just fine as well esp. since you've confirmed the Conversations works.

    either I'm going crazy, or I saw you post on another board as well..

    still picture quality is pretty much the same, I didn't notice any difference except very slight color saturation difference. it is definitely worth it for video recording, since you'll have smooth motion on your video recordings with the modded driver. so yes, I'd recommend it.. you have nothing to lose, and you'll gain better video recording.
