Data in Alltel Areas

In a previous thread, I asked about getting data access on my phone. I went into Verizon territory a couple days ago, and behold, 1xRTT data worked fine. The ppcgw1.vzwreseller.com etc. WAP gateway didn't work, but my other gateways did.

Right now I'm in a (formerly) Alltel area. Dialing *228 gives, sometimes, "The number you have dialed is not a working number. Please check the number and dial again. Alltel 1372." Other times it works and proceeds with activation (that was how I activated originally). QNC works fine in this area. Is 1xRTT data working for other PagePlus users in formerly Alltel areas?

I wandered into Alltel 1x territory over the weekend and was unable to use data. That said, I also forgot to run *22891 before I got out of Verizon's native coverage area. Not sure if that would have actually made a difference, but I'll hopefully be back in a few weeks to check.

They are in the middle of changing the tower ID information. On a lot of the Altel towers in Mississippi they changed the NAM ID and not the SID ID. In order for *228 and internet to work they have to both be Verizon IDs.
