This is prepaid wireless service. If you will be in an area that does not have coverage with your primary prepaid carrier get a back-up/temporary phone with another prepaid carrier. Thats the great thing about prepaid wireless its easy and now affordable to have more than one cell phone and number. If its for short stays / vacations there are plenty of carriers to choose from with plenty of different entry level phones on each as well. While it would be great to have roaming on VZW included on the Virgin Mobile service, I would pass on it if it would require more expensive phones.

    taxes...

The t word. Virgin Mobile's taxes probably vary from state to state . I know Boost Cdma did. They run on the same network and are subject to the same Federal and State tax laws. The amount of tax you would have to pay would depend on your state. Call VM CS and find out .

You can buy top-up cards at any retail store or online. The tax on those is whatever is charged by the government for sales tax on taxable merchandise at that store. If you want to avoid those taxes altogether, buy your TopUp cards from third-party sellers online in states other than your own.

No, there is taxes no matter what and I know this for sure. I don't have any credit cards register with vm and my $24.99 plan becomes $30.11 after taxes. They take $30.11 out of my top-up balance every month. So I can't imagine that the unlimited plan is any different.

    Is this really unlimited?

Is this really a unlimited plan or is there any catch to it(like with cap on minutes).

I am planning to get this plan to my friend who is in US for a short visit. If he uses may be 5000 or more mins per month, will they cancel the plan?

How does this compare with Boost unlimited plan for voice only? I am not intersted in web, text etc.

It depends. Boost CDMA and Virgin should be one in the same so to speak (they both share the same Sprint network). As for Boost iDEN, that is a different story...it is a matter of preference...

Is there any account balance info before the call goes through with the new unlimited plan?

Nope...It is like a regular contact plan, but you will get a text message to remind you that your 30 days are running out...at least I did.
