To get unlimited talk and text, you have to let VM into your wallet to the tune of $70/month. Data plans are extra on top of that. $70 is what AT&T's cheapest iPhone plan costs, and it includes data!

If I'm paying that much a month, I'd rather have an iPhone. Color me unimpressed.

The 3 month protection for someone who becomes unemployed is marketing genius (if they don't get burned).

Really surprising that no other carrier offers this. In this economy that will get a lot of second looks from people as no other carrier offers it.

Nothing in this about Helio following suit (yet). It may be the roaming costs associated with Helio will prevent that from happening. The roaming and unlimited data are the differentiators.

Unlimited talk and unlimited text would be $60 under this. Virgin doesn't compete on data.

Virgin isn't competing against AT&T either. I believe a 2 year IPhone contract with unlimited voice and text would be $150 a month though.

    This is really awesome!

Well my take between Virgin Mobile and Boost Mobile is this: If you want the push-to-talk feature, go with Boost Mobile and if you want SMS gateway text messaging, go with Virgin Mobile.

They are both really good deals and with both of them being on Sprint's network, you can't go wrong with service and pricing. I agree on that 3-month protection policy. It will definitely look good right now and it's something that up until recently, only car dealerships were offering. So, to see it become apart of other everyday things is pretty awesome.

Cheers to the person who first posted this thread!

Yeah, unless you have an employee discount with AT&T, an iPhone plan is $130-$150 per month with all the bells and whistles.

This article correctly identifies the real instigators of this price war in my opinion.

Yeah, they made every single plan that they offer perfect for a particular type of usage. There's really something for everyone here. Well done Virgin.

    Hooray for competition!

Where are you getting that info from? According to the brochure, the basic rate is staying at .20 cents. Unless you get one of those texting plans, then the per minute rate drops to .10 cents. However, you are then paying $14.99 or 19.99 for that rate.

I personally believe VM should have drop the basic rate to .10 cents/minute, because they would then be competing at the low end. It's a sad thing to think that Tracfone (assuming DMFL) has better rates for low end users than VM.

I know that. I was just making a point that even with Boost old CDMA unlimited plan it is a far better bargain than what VM has to offer.

Price cut? Sorry I don't see it. Minutes are 20¢ all the time. Ah but they will allow victim to theoretically get 200 minutes for 20 bucks that goes poof in 30 days unless victim bellies up to the bar and spends another 20 bucks!

I don't call this competition. I could spend less to get the same per minute rate on Net10 making that one $15/mo minimum.

I could just use Boost and have 10 cents/minute all day every day. $3.33/mo. minimum.

I could use T-mobile prepaid and likewise not be required to "use or lose or add" $20/mo to keep going.

Tell me again, what is Virgin Mobile good for? Certainly not for Sugar Mama.

They also have to watch out for Metro PCS too since Metro is starting to pick up steam from a lot of heavy advertising although they are only limited in certain areas but that could easily change as they seem to be slowly expanding.

Does anybody know if the $39.99 400 Anytime and Unlimited N/W plan will include mobile-to-mobile? The $59.99 plan includes it now, but since they're getting rid of that one I was thinking that they might add that down to the $39.99 plan.

That works for me. They should drop the basic rate to 10cents.
