Funny how Boost has a sibling rivalry between its cdma and iden brethren and then we throw their cousin mvno VM into the mix. The Sprint family can best be described as a dysfunctional one for sure. Sero or its present equivalent, Unlimited Everything and a few other cool things notwithstanding.
Boost iden drew a lot of people in with their really cheap i425s as low as 19 to 29 bucks and change at some locations, but now that the word has spread, they've discontinued it and raised the price on the remaining stock it appears. I425s are going for 40 in my area if you can still find them. 9.99 for a entry level phone to a plan that actually gives you options beats everyone including tracfone. Tracfone . I culd NEVER understand their Labyrinthian payment plans. I 'd rather use their sister Net10.
Hoping Net10's Unlimited drops soon too. They came out with it at the same time the original 79.99 Vm unltd was announced. 80 a month seems way to high during these wonderful price warring times.

If you know how to play the tracfone game you can get the cost per minutes down really low and extend your service days for years. Check the tracfone forum. Besides I would choose tracfone over Virgin Mobile anyday because of their exceptional coverage and roaming.

Not really. The old Boost Unlimited plans were regional...these are nationwide.
I am currently using a Sprint ic902 which I am happy with. It is CDMA 1900mhz only and I am never without native coverage. This makes me confident that I can switch over to VM and have no coverage issues.
My question is about the data packages:
I usually visit WAP or Mobile websites and sometimes text only versions.
I am curious to know just how much surfing can you do with a 20 or 50mb add-on.
It just does not seem like much.

20MB has proven always adequate for me. I check gmail multiple times daily and visit a graphics-and-text intensive blog multiple times per week. I do not use Opera Mini yet. I usually average 12-13 MB per month with that kind of usage. I also wander over to CNN RSS feeds a few times a week.
I guess I don't know the right people, because I can't get away with anything around here... Rest assured, though, I will never maliciously properly quote anybody again!
I think CSI is right on for the described kind of usage. I would heartily recommend that you get Opera Mini and use it. Just great for light sites and even works for some heavier ones.
Some time back I had a 1 meg plan and it was rather tight. Now on "unlimited" I typically draw 30 to 90 megs/mo. That is using S/E push mail tool 24x7 plus gmail, opera mini, and eBuddy regularly and not trying to be frugal. Sometimes I tether a bit and even use AmaZeGPS and google maps. With not much sacrifice I could stay within 50 for sure but not on any stinking CDMA because I my S/E!
Well New voice plans are affordable I have to admit.

It is not Virgin Mobile's fault about their coverage. They don't offer roaming on their prepaid. If they did, it probably wouldn't be free. They offer roaming on contract, just like most contract providers. Virgin Mobile uses Sprint's native network, so you can't yell at Virgin Mobile. It isn't their fault. It is Sprint fault if you don't have coverage there. If you don't like Virgin Mobile get another provider.

Well, as far as I know, Boost can't roam on Verizon, Alltel, USCC, or any CDMA provider since they're using iDEN. Is that correct? Now CDMA Boost is a different story... I'm not familiar with their roaming anyway.
If unlimited roaming was cheap why would carriers drop their customers for excessive roaming? Why do companies charge as much as $1/minute for roaming off net?

I don't give a damn if they are charging a little bit more. At least with the extra coverage I and other customers can have the piece of mind that wherever I go I can at least have some extended coverage rather than no coverage. I have Pageplus and their roaming is 59 cents per minute but at least I can get coverage when there is no native coverage. And the argument about Sprint's contract with VM, excessive roaming, phones not having the capability, or people who don't want or don't even care about roaming is TOTAL BULL! Lowering their plans to unlimited is nice but I rather prefer VM adding an option for extended coverage even if the cost is a little bit more.

VM and UNLMTD By Boost have identical coverage areas (native sprint cdma). Boost cdma was originally a regional service that charged an extra $5 to extend the "home" calling area and would charge 15cents per minute for calls made while out of the area but still limited to the sprint native network; with no off network roaming.
Wow. First Boost puts $50 Unlimited everything on IDen. Then Metro gives us the $50 Blackberry Unlimited plan. Then Tmobile fires off its unlimited $50 talk loyalty program. Page Plus comes out with its $40 1500min/1500 text monthly deal and now Virgin Mobile USA drops this bomb. It's a great time to be a phone customer. No contracts and lower prices. Please keep it up. I give it to Boost for starting this price war. We all win. I love it!
Now if only Att and Verizon would start to make some REAL moves...
(C'mon VZ, 3.99 a day for unlimited prepaid talk? Everyone else is going $50 a month and VZ lovers have to pay nearly $120??!! Wake up!)
Now one can only hope that at&t will answer all this by adding unlimited long distance, caller ID and call waiting for landine customers for only an additional $15 or so a month. My landline is ~$22/month for unlimited local outbound calls, unlimited free inbound calls, but no calling features whatsoever.
