motorokr spider'd display (ooo lucky me!)

So yesterday, going along my day untill my wife slid by the table that her motorokr was on and bumped it off onto a cement patio floor. she didn't even want to pick it up. she knew before she looked. picked it up and yup, sure enough, spidered crystal. I got the phone call on the baseball practice field with my son. she, needless to say, a little upset.

Other then a scratch on the beautiful metal it seems to be working 100%. I know when I had a Q there were some instructions as to getting an exacto knife and working the glass/plastic off to replace it.

Adding insult to injury just signed for a 2 yr last october. AH!
Anyone know if anything can be done with this phone or am i SOL?

You can purchase a new LCD, and replacement is actually really easy on the ROKR.

With the slide open, you'll notice two T5 screws on the back of the upper slide housing, which you need to remove. When that's complete, you simply "wiggle" the from housing from the upper slide. However, you should be careful, as you need to remove the attached flex cable, before the entire faceplate will come away from the handset.

Hmm sounds interesting and doable. just to be clear, it's not the LCD itself but the crystal cover over it. That's what you're talking about right?

Anyone have thoughts about where you can purchase replacement parts such as these? I've only purchased batteries and such in the past. Is there a name to this piece that I should try to look for?

They should have the lens at cnn.cn.

PERFECT! course the lens is 4.99 and I have 62 in my cart so far.

I'm starting to look over the t-5 screws on the backside and thinking. Hmm how hard could this be. Any sites that might show you a little bit of how something like this might be replaced? cnn didn't have a video for the Rokr but other things. Maybe theres a site that does. Anyone know?

No, I actually thought you were talking about the LCD. If it's only the lens, that's even easier. You'd do the same as I already stated for the LCD, remove the faceplate, take a hairdryer and heat the lens up a little bit, and you can simply pull it off.

It's really simple, but unfortunately, I don't know where you'd be able to find a video.

Thanks Urban, I'm going to have to do a little more searching on lens replacement. My question would turn to then sticking the new lens down to the housing. Should I snag some 2 sided tape to secure or will it be sticky enough or a dab of superglue...

I've had dust problems in the past with my Q and E815 so i know i don't want to get back into that battle (Esp with the Mrs. ). I don't think dust and cell phone displays get along very well.

I took a look today, pulled off the cover and looked inside. I'm unsure but pulling this cover off and using a hairdryer should soften the adhesive so I can gently push the lens out. (as opposed to trying to pry it from the outside)

I guess the only thing unknown is the replacement lens coming from cnn.cn. Will I need some 2 sided tape to resecure it up or does it come with the sticky already on it?

I tried to upload a pic just to show but i'm not sure how to get it into this text. ha, still learning.

Some do, Ive gotten Razr and Blackberry lenses and they came with the tape. Whatever you do, don't use Krazy glue, it will fog it up permanently.

I haven't replaced a Z6 lens in awhile, from what I recall when we order from OEM, they do have adhesive.

welp placed the order, waiting for the shipment. that'll have to do for now. I ordered the double sided tape just in case, figured for a couple bucks couldn't hurt. and the lens polish, and the tweezers, and a trackball for my BB and a set of buttons for her phone and a....
