Official iPhone & VZW speculation thread (KEEP ALL DISCUSSION HERE)
Not that i'm not loving my omnia, but this article kind of sparked my attention. do any of you guys think this will happen in 2009? The article says that Verizon could have it as early as January but i find that hard to believe, let alone believe it's coming to Verizon at all...
In my mind the Storm itself was a failure. The profit brought in was a complete success.
Poor device was too hyped.
As a consumer-friendly device, it cannot compare to the iPhone.
As a business-oriented device, it cannot compare to its Blackberry brethren with a hard keyboard.
As a hybrid device for someone like me who wants to listen to the occasional MP3, watch the occasional video, and read but not necessarily reply to emails, I find it's perfect.
(Build quality could be better of course, and I wouldn't say no to continued software updates)
It could possibly happen. Orange just lost a French governmental suit against them regarding an exclusivity agreement reached with Apple over the iPhone that was lodged by Bouygues...
With this cloud now "looming", there could be hope for the chains being broken. Now, keep in mind this suit was brought due to lack of competition, and there's plenty here in the U.S., so don't get you hopes up too high.

I left NEXTEL because: 1) Gary Forsee for single-handedly killing the mighty NEXTEL 2) Paul Saleh for coughing up the money for Gary's BIG ideas of grandeur from the NEXTEL cash cow 3) Timmy Donahue for taking his golden parachute and leaving post-merger when we needed him most 4) Barry West for regressing iDEN backwards 10 years by killing 6:1 and WiDEN development 5) Dan Hesse for practicing apathy over sympathy, then prolonging the pain
I hope it does come to Verizon. Not because I want one, but because of the competition it creates. I think the iphone is perfect to create the multimedia/mainstream smartphone section at verizon.
As much as the touch pro and omnia are trying to appeal to non-business users with touchflo and touchwiz, they are still windows mobile at heart and are still business oriented. Blackberry, with the exception of the pearl, is also business oriented. My prediction would be that business users stick with blackberry and winmo just because of what they can provide over the iphone. However, I believe the general public looking strictly for a multimedia experience or a stylish phone will flock to the iphone over any other phone on Verizon.
If the iphone does come to Verizon, phones like the voyager, dare, and their upgrades wont be able compete even though they arent smartphones. Manufacturers of "regular" phones will have to think of some pretty good ideas to compete with the iphone. Of course, there are going to be people who need to bare minimum in a phone, but for the higher end non-smartphone device manufacturers are going to have a lot of trouble keeping up.
Thats just my opinion on the matter though. We will have to see how everything unfolds, but its nice to be able to discuss these things.

It was pitched to Verizon first, but they turned it down.
Even if it does come to Verizon, I still wouldn't want one.
The main reasons why VZW turned the iPhone down was that Apple wanted too many hands in the money jar, overall say in how things go in the phone, and did not want VZW to poke and tweak at the UI as they normally do in almost every handset they put on "The Network".
i have tried several times to like the iphone but it is just not for me. good for some, great for others but just not for me.
And it's most likely because there are people who love having a music player first and a phone second... it gets better for them when the phone gets built into the media player. Beyond that, iPhone is a nice toy, but not a serious tool like a WinMo unit. Those who truly want to customize a phone come over to the Windowed side of the house and try not to throw stones.
Does anyone realistically think that if the Iphone comes to Verizon it will be ANYTHING remotely like it is now? Unless Verizon changes its policy there won't be any apps for it (based on every other phone that comes out there aren't many/any apps for it).
I would faint if Verizon paired up with Apple and you could actually download apps from the same places you can download them now. For some reason I see the Verizon hacked Iphone will be locked down and pretty useless or it will somehow be changed to fit Verizon specs and not worth crap.
I can see it now, a Verizon hacked interface. lol gotta love Verizon

Um if you use a winmo phone or a bb you have tons of apps. No one offers a lot of apps on dumb phones. The iphone app store is amazing, but there are no shortage of apps for verizon smart phones.
i do have to say, i've browsed the app store on the iphone and i must say i was a lil jealous. wish we had that type of variety on the omnia. even the apps avail on the G1 are pretty cool and thats a brand new operating system!!
as winmo users, we have handango but all those programs are pretty much 10 to 20 dollars compared to the 1.99 or even free apps offered on the iphone or G1.
