I have followed this thread all along, and at one time I wanted and Iphone, but after looking further into Apple devices like the Itouch, which some have purchased to as a sort of second best choice, I'm not really liking apple much! I DON'T want to have to install Itunes on my PC, I hate Apples proprietary ways. Everything apple has to be done their way, loaded from their app store , and so on. Too many rules.

Verizon is just as bossy though. I like my iPod touch, you pretty much get the iPhone without the AT&T service. And that's what the majority of people want now anyway. I just like the app store and wifi to be honest. More so the app store.

I find this post HILARIOUS. Can you install programs on your BREW phone without Verizon?

I had a dream just now, where a Verizon commercial came on and was talking about "the iPhone... Now comes in two different suits." Or something weird and random, and saying that there was going to be something announced tomorrow about it. I was all excited when I woke up. And then I realized it was only a dream...
But to be honest, I'm not that excited anymore. I was so excited for WWDC and following all kinds of iPhone and Mac blogs for the past few weeks and trying to connect any dots I could to assume an iPhone was coming. But after seeing the new one... I don't care. The "trash talkers" are right. The iPhone isn't innovative at all. They didn't even change the look at all, they just added a video camera and a compass. Wtf? A compass? And I've had video capabilities on my phones since 9th grade. It was just a complete let down and a joke, so I'm over it. I'm sticking with BlackBerry phones unless Apple creates something truly innovative next year, like the first phone with a front-facing camera available in the US, and with video chat. And NEW HARDWARE DESIGN. How is someone supposed to know if you're using a 3G or a 3GS? What a lame upgrade. Give us something new, not ugly shiny plastic. Clearly, I'm just talking all over the place, but my point is that I don't care and won't care about a Verizon iPhone anymore, unless it's something new (which it won't be).

In terms of cases, there isn't much they can do. Apple can go back to the metal they used with the 2G but honestly, i'd prefer the plastic. In cold weather, the metal can get really cold. In hot, it can get hot. There were complaints about that, which is probably why they went to plastic. What more can Apple really do in term of style for a touchscreen. The body will stay the same. All they can do is keep trying to add features. I don't care about a front facing camera, and honestly, VZW will probably not allow this anyways.
The point of my post was, there are plenty of phones that are more capable and have better features than the iPhone. If Apple wants to stay in the competition, I think they need to step it up. I was stating that I have no desire for one anymore, because they've made it apparent it's going to be the same phone year after year.

No, but I think the point was that the iPhone is marketed as a smartphone. Obviously if you're comparing it to a BREW phone, it isn't much of a smartphone is it?

It's not like they are releasing different models of the phone like other companies (HTC, BlackBerry, etc.)--they essentially have one model ("The iPhone") that they are providing with generational improvements. They might branch out into different versions at some point, and will likely change the design in some way after a few generations, similar to iPod for example, but that's how it works with Apple, and it's not exactly new or surprising really.

I don't think Apple needs to worry about staying in the competition. At this point, they are the ones setting the bar.
Since when are mediocre phones with *new* (old) features setting the bar? The iPhone is a status symbol, and that's pretty much it.. I'm just over the hype. I was excited because of the "leaked" stuff saying there would be videochat and a front facing camera, and a matte "rubberized" back to the phone. It was something new and different. But then when I saw the "new" iPhone, I realized people just get it because it's the "cool thing to do."

It's fine that you're over the hype. The rest of the world isn't, and there aren't any signs that they will be anytime soon.
Apple sets the bar because they can sell a million phones in a weekend. Money talks.

plus phones go in 2 year cycles usually. They don't really make huge improvements yearly. I would expect something big next year from apple. Most phone companies come out with an updated phone yearly, but a new revamped one is usually a two year cycle. The 3G came out last year and the 3GS is just an update to it. Like I said, something new next year probably.
I'm hoping next year is going to be a big update, but if it's not, then I'm just going to lose interest completely. I love Apple, but I've been let down, haha.
And I agree with you RyZR. I think that's one of the main reasons that it's so popular, it has such strong backing from developers. If it didn't have the app store, I honestly don't think it'd be this popular.
