    SH9020C / SH1810C (aka 923SH / 930SH)

    923SH aka SH9020C

    930SH aka SH1810C

Ok, I made up my mind and I'm going to buy one these two phones, probably the SH9020C, but I've got a few questions:

    - The SH9020C and the SH1810C are GSM only. Is it correct to say that there's no difference between buying the chinese versions (GSM only) and buying the 923SH/930SH with a HyperSIM (since 3G would be locked this also means GSM only)?

The advantages of buying the chinese version is that I would avoid CPR issues, plus they are fully unlocked. The only disadvantage I see is that I would lose kana/kanji input.

    - Since China is (hopefully) getting 3G services soon, does it make sense to wait for 3G versions? Or is there little chance of these phones getting updates, in which case I should just go ahead and buy now.

    - As far as price goes, are there any (chinese/HK) shops you would recommend to buy those? I don't speak Chinese which severely restrict my options. There's only one seller for the SH9020C on ebay right now (bqdigital) and they look solid but their margins are pretty high.

    - Has anyone already tried taobaonow? Are they legit?

Going with a Softbank SH phone means you wont be able to surf the web nor download games unlike the Chinese phones. Therefore, 3G on Softbank phones doesn't really matter unless you do video calling... (the phones would probably connect to 3G if you're in a 3G area, but I dunno because it depends where you are). If these Softbank phones are eventually fully unlocked (which wont be for a while), you'll be able to download many games and themes that the chinese phones can't use.

When the 3G versions of the Chinese phones come out, expect to find them being exported at crazy prices. Unless you really need 3G, I'd wait for the 3G phones to come out and buy the 2G phones at clearance prices.

I don't know many retailers, but unless you actually go to China, expect to pay prices similar to the ones on Ebay... ($600-800 USD for either) The Softbank phones will run you about $200-300 USD less.

The 930SH (SH1810C) is superior to the 923SH (SH9020C) if you didn't know that.

Many of your questions were answered before...do a little more research next time.

Sorry, I knew that Keitai + HyperSIM = no internet. Should have made that clear in my first post.

Ok. Thanks for the advice. So it's very likely that those phones *will* get a 3G version...

In what way? The 930SH is slimmer and has a superior camera but the 923SH has GPS and a bigger screen -- but apart from that, isn't it just a form factor choice (cycloid vs non-cycloid)?

Yep the 3G version of that phone has existed for quite some time and is factory unlocked as well.

Do a search on the WX-T923 and WX-T930

It has something to do with my carrier in my avatar

Daaamn. And I thought keitai where hard to obtain... that's nothing compared to Taiwanese phones!

The WX-T930 and WX-T923 aren't available *anywhere* (except for a single, lonely ebay seller).

Because it's expensive to buy it from FET anyways. No one wants to buy it from FET. People in Taiwan will just head to several well known keitai chains and get their keitais there. No need to waste a ton of money for the FET unlocked models if the SoftBank models work just fine over there.

Well the only reason why you would buy an FET keitai is if you need internet. But If you don't surf the net take a unique keitai over FET's overpriced stuff.....well I should be saying that considering Rogers is still trying to sell the n95 8GB for $149.99 on a 3yr contract ><

I don't know why people would consider my SH906i to be "big" compared to the Nokia N95 >_>
