Every time I've gone to a Fido store to activate a line (whether with my mom or sister) or to Rogers (sister), they let us choose the last 4 digits. My family tends to go with the last four digits of the home phone number, just to make it easier. And it's always been easy, u usually can choose the area code (416/647/905/289) plus the last 4.

I suggest calling early like 6am because thats the time numbers are released into the pool and you have a better chance of getting a number you want

Sorry the Rogers reps are saying its $25. I mentioned the $50 on here because I expected I would have to pay more to request a certain number. my bad.

Ok they can search but not scan? So if I wanted a set of matching numbers IE 2020 I would need to ask them to look for 2020 then 2121 then 2323 then 2424 and so on? maybe I need to make a list of possible numbers. lol might even have to call each number first to see if it rings

sometimes a number you consider a vanity number, may be already in use by someone else which considers it to be a plain old ordinary number. no way to distinguish between them.

calling it wont work. Rogers re-uses numbers. When a person changes thier number - their old number is held for 3months and released back into the stack on day 91. That is why at 6am you have a better chance of getting a number - because it just got released. If u call a number and its not taken, it might still be in holding waiting for day 91.

    I suggest usin this website

    http://www.cnac.ca/co_codes/co_code_status_map.htm

if u click on the area code you are interested in, itll tell you what NXX numbers rogers Wireless has purchaced for your area code

    For instance:

416-219-xxxx is registered to Rogers ATT Wireless. So you can norrow it that way. pick an NXX u like so you can give more suggestions to the rep

u can even say " can u tell me any numbers that are available that start in 416-219" they can look it up that way too

Reps have access to a search functionality. its basically xxx-xxx-xxxx and they can replace x's with numbers. so 416-2x9-x55x is something they can search for and if its available it could show a result like: 416-219-8556

they cant do this though 416-219-xyyx, and get a result like 416-219-0990. Doesnt work like that

so make a list of the last 4 digits. Keep in mind Reps have call handle time targets so faster you are with the numbers- the happier the rep will be. and if u like certian NXX, choosing some of those can be helpful to the rep as well

    hope it helps

When I worked for Rogers I'd usually take the time to find someone a good number. It depended on the person though. Somepeople would want you to search for 30 minutes. Usually I'd just say I can try a couple. It's great if people say I want my number to end in XXXX. When they say I want it to repeat I couldn't just say "find repeating numbers' I'd have to try like *111 or 2020 etc.

    THANKS!!!!!

I got a new number today. Its not super cool but works for me. Knowing how the search options worked made it super easy as I knew what to ask for.

Im sure the rep thanks you as well as I was able to finish the call in 4 minutes. lol he didn't mention the prorated bill, the VM reset, that I needed to sync my iphone to Itunes to get the phone updated or if I was going to be charged. Luckily I know all that all ready so I have no complaints. now just need to update everything with the new number

I wanted 0123, 1234, 2345, or something like that. She sat there for about 10 minutes trying different combinations until she found one.

When I wanted a nice number through my VoIP provider, they didn't have a great searching mechanism, but I wrote a script that used their search script, and it came up with an awesome number.

Until Rogers' website allows you to specify a regular expression as a search parameter, I think your best bet is to keep calling until you get a nice, patient rep. I tend to get the best ones late at night (maybe they're bored?).
    sounds about right, hahaha

Thread is about reps being dinks. C'est tout.

btw, to the person who had a pedophile harassing them. With justification you can get a free # change, also when doing a TOR, you get a free # change.

Rogers as stated you can search., paygo you may get some grief, but you can do it ymmv.

Telus is tougher as they have to select the exchange, THEN search the last 4. SO ANNOYING., I had a nice rep go through all 11 exchanges that day to find a number, and in the end couldn't.

Bell I *think* IIRC is the worst to search for?

I like the expression 'vanity' numbers.

Here's a fun story. So I wanted to get an epic #. We searched for it, it was available...how lucky!!!??? So I set up the sim, try to claim the number...bang. Won't do it??? WTF? Store calls dealer support., THAT person says., yeah it's free....tries to register it...bang. Can't. No idea. So I'm thinking, hmmm maybe it's been ported. I have buddies check the porting software for eligibility, and it says 'yes eligible'., so it's not a case of it having been ported out on another provider. Anyway, through a contact I ended up learning that it was a reserved # for businesses, but since I'm so charming, they'll release it for me. How cool is that?

You can always have the option choosing the last four, no matter it is charged or free(moving ) number changing. I used have my last name and fifth last happen to be a 2 (A) for my london number, then changed to my kitchcner since i moved , now got my first name (alex) .
You can do in store, sometimes they even allow you do five digits.
