    Feedback on the N79

Was thinking of buying one, but would like to hear feedback on people who already own one. Specifically battery life, reception, earpiece volume, build quality and keypad. Anything else you would like to add is a bonus

    Thanks for your input.

Man this is tough. I will give you my perspective. Battery life is decent for a phone with this feature set. I get 1-2 days with 3g browsing, wifi browsing, running networked apps, and about 50 texts a day, maybe some music, once in a while an actual phone call. So it is way better than my N75 or my GF's razr2.

Reception for me has been awesome. In my area I get better reception on this phone then my e61i, n75, v3xx. My earpiece volume is loud for me, i usually have about 2 ticks left to the highest volume on most calls, and on some my ear hurts. As far as build quality my first one had a bad keypad install, but my second one is a pretty good build. It might creak in some areas, but only when i push squeeze the phone hard. I would say that it is light, small, take pretty good daytime photos, and GREAT video for its size. It reminds me of my old 6682, but with all the new features I could want.

Now I have heard people complain about some of the stuff I find great, like earpiece volume, build quality, and reception. But in my experience it has been great.

Is it a definite that the NAM N79 is only available in white? I'd like to get a black/gray one if I can.

    Thanks.

IMO, the N79 is the best overall Nseries on the market today. Period. I *love* mine.

Battery - rocking. It's a smaller screen, which means longer battery life
Reception - it's a Nokia, do you have to ask?
Earpiece volume - I find it good, and usually leave it 2-3 bars less than max.
Build quality - it's plasticky, sure, but I've had mine over 7 months and haven't yet had anything fall off of come loose or anything.
Keypad - it's a bit cramped, but like anything else, after you use it a bit, you get used to it.

Have you guys run into any out of memory glitches with the N79? I thought I read on the nokia website that it had 50MB of memory free after startup.

Yea, I'd like to know this too. The white looks fine to me, but is it available in grey?

    1. 'Active Themes': Themes that change color as you change the battery cover.
    2. 5 Megapixel camera as opposed to the 3.2 Megapixel camera on the N78
    3. Aesthetics, IMO, but that depends on who you ask although I suspect few will disagree with me on that.

Bold statement Ricky, but awesome... I can't wait for mine to ship from Nokia. All of the nseries features I like, in a candybar shell (aka should be excellent build quality - which most nokias are missing lately), thats the reason I ordered one.

I like the aesthetics of the N78 a lot more, but it is so riddled with bugs it cannot be recommended over the N79.

I have had two N79's for about 2 months total and have not had any out of memory. My shipped configuration was 68mb free, and I am now at 65 on restart.

If it were all black instead of that copper on the side I may agree with you. You're right about the bugs, though. Thought they were fixed with the last firmware update...

I've yet to run out of RAM when in use - with Nokia Messaging, Gravity, Mobbler, etc running in the background.

However, I *have* had an issue with free internal storage disappearing mysteriously. It's likely my fault for installing *everything* to the phone's memory, instead of using the memory card, but it should be noted, anyways. I'm convinced that it's Nokia Messaging that's leaking somewhere, but Davis has confirmed they have ~1k N79 users, none of which have reported it, so it could easily be something else.
