    Fido dollars useless?

I have almost $160 worth of FD$ so I headed over to their site. Low and behold all the phone offerings are crap, the samsung jack seems to have disappeared and I already know before checking that the iphone is inevitably going to be out of stock. No biggie I head over to the options menu I wouldn't mind nearly a year of free blackberry service or some other options. The option menu doesn't work. Fido has never had stellar phone offerings but come on! the blackberry pearl? really? are you serious?

I now have a bunch of dollars and nothing to spend it on forget accessories when we first got our phones from Fido all the accessories bluetooth headsets etc came dead on arrival.

If it weren't for the disgustingly good plan I already have I would have tried another company by now.

Is their something I am missing? some hidden good use for FD$?

Fido has been adding exclusions to their Fido Dollars program.

We used to be able to use the Fido dollars for accessories. Now, we can't get accessories. We also used to be able to use our Fido dollars to get any type of phone or data device regardless of what plan. Now, if you want to get a smartphone or a data device, you have to have a data plan under contract.

I'm glad that I spent my Fido dollars before the changes were implemented.
Fido (monthly plan - personal/data):Novatel Wireless MC950D or Nokia CS-18

Rogers (pay as you go - Canadian prepaid): "Fido" LG Nexus-4

Rogers (monthly BIS data plan): Blackberry Q10

Red Pocket Mobile (US prepaid): Sony-Ericsson c510 or Sony-Ericsson w300i

T-Mobile (US prepaid): unlocked Fido iPhone 3GS 32GB or "Fido" Samsung Nexus-S

Every single one was dead? Maybe you didn't put batteries in them or charge the batteries in them.

K honestly fido dollars is total garbage. They've been calling my brother all week and encouraging him to redeem his fido dollars for a new phone. He straight up told the rep that fido dollars is lame and their are no phones better than what he has already. Then she proceeded to offer him options to use the fido dollars with and he already had all the options she was offering. He said "see I told you fido dollars is useless", she then laughed and that ended the phone call.

Can't wait till then call me, I will tell them the same thing.
    Fido Plan (Retentions Plan)

    $17.50 - 200 Daytime Minutes, Unlimited Evenings/Weekends 5pm (aka Killer Plan)
$30.00 - iPhone Value Pack [Unlimited Text/Picture Messaging, Caller ID, Name Display, Voicemail, 500 MB Data]

    Total = $47.50 + Tax

There's a reason why Fido switched to that look and feel of No-Frills... because they are.

At No-Frills you have to bring your own bags or use a cardboard box.
At Fido you have to bring your own phone to have anything decent.

Hahaha thats a great way to put it. At this point I doubt even fido reps could defend buying fido branded phones as opposed to buying and unlocking your own

geez and I cant even redeem these for a BNIB pearl to resell. Id be losing money cause im sure even if they did offer them for redemption without a plan they would be charging $250+

Can we use FD towards contract priced phones? I thought it was officially introduced couple years back, but not sure where it is now.

Yes, you can. For example, if the phone costs $50 with a 2 year contract and $200 for no annual contract and you agree to the 2 year contract, you could use your Fido dollars to offset the $50. If you don't want a contract, you could use your Fido dollars to offset the $200 cost.

I believe that the only exception is if your phone is a smartphone or data device in which case, you need to have data on the line before they will allow you to use your Fido dollars on the device regardless of whether you agree to a contract or don't agree to a contract. I believe that you can still pay full price for the phone or data device if you don't have data but they won't let you use any of your Fido dollars to offset the price.
