I have a question about the message center in the BB 7100i. Is there any way to make it show ONLY text messages and picture messages, without the call logs and "registered to network" messages. All those messages the phone sends me are getting a little annoying.

If you use the PDF guide, and the service books that go with it, it SHOULD work for your 7520. Give it a try and if it works let me know so I can confirm for everyone that the process works on the 7520 as well as the 7100.

    Shangmail with 7100i

Is there a version of Shangmail for the 7100i. I couldn't find it on their website. I installed one for BB OS 4.2 I think, and it gives me errors when I try to run it.

You don't need shangmail to send and recieve email on your 7100i. I use a program called LogicMail. It gives me access to multiple pop3 email accounts, let's me pick which one I want to send from, and it's FREE!!! Give it a try.. I think you'll like it.

You could try Funambol too. I never could get it installed but maybe you'd have better luck with them.

Okay, I was unable to receive MMS. It was because I had forgotten that at some point I changed my IMEI on Boost's site to an old i730 when I was fiddling with things trying to figure out how to get MMS in a round about way. Just thought I would post that for anyone else who was having trouble (I also turned off my text forwarding about 20 minutes before that).

My 8350i is now completely functional with the native browser working with WAP, MMS working in and out, Gmail and other BIS-data dependent services working. I'm very happy!

Funny thing happened early in the morning yesterday, after I got everything running - got a call from an 800 number while I slept, left no voicemail. Reverse lookup shows the number belongs to Boost Mobile. Very odd. But, everything still works great, and my SIM card shows my number now.

I just wanted to submit an update.... if anyone else has the same issues with the dateotaracker that i did.

if you get this, i think you have to go into your applications on your berry and activate it. then... what i did was to start the whole process again on a different computer. it'll probably work just as well if you delete everything you have done on your computer. now i have working internet, text messaging in and out, and of course phone! excellent... i'm very happy!

how about we all post what applications work, and how you like them? I have the 7100i, and have downloaded the following apps that work.

gmail: works wonderfully. i really love the interface.
opera mini: i didn't think i'd need it since i had the other internet working; but i'm glad i did. it's very pretty and good.

To be honest, these were my main aims. I have tried to get an instant messaging app that will work with google talk, but so far no success. I have google talk, but i keep getting an error message when i try to sign in. has anyone else tried this or had success with a different app?
I downloaded Nav4All but found it awfully slow and cumbersome. any suggestions for GPS?

what else does anyone have? and what's the best way to install them? i know we 7100i users can't use the blackberry app 'store', but is there an easier way than going straight to the individual sites?

again, i'm super happy with my berry and very grateful to everyone that's posted such useful information on this forum.

I also must state for the record that I don't know why 'my mom bought me this phone' is under my name!

Also... I noticed the post that asked if there was a way to restrict the data in the messages list, i too would prefer that calls didn't show up here. isn't that what the call log is for?

Try a program called IMHere Lite. It'll let you use Yahoo and MSN messengers. If you want AOL.. try a program called Ramble. As for GPS.. I use Google Maps. For email... try using LogicMail... it will allow you to access your pop3 email accounts to both send AND recieve emails. I also suggest using YWeather!... great for grabbing a quick forecast. Last but not least... try using Google Sync... it let's you set important dates, times, and events using your pc and then sync them to your phone. It also backs up your contacts.

You say you use google maps for GPS, but does the my location feature work because it doesn't on my 7100i.

Excuse my ignorance, but I know all Nextel text messages are MMS, however I'm not sure I fully understand exactly how it works. When someone sends an SMS to Boost it gets converted to an MMS, correct? So if I buy a 7100i and do the above procedure, if someone sends me an SMS, will I receive it? Also if I send an MMS from the 7100i set up in the above manner, does it get sent out and converted in to an SMS or does the person I send it to receive it as an MMS? The reason I ask is I love Blackberrys and know a lot about them so I would like to do this, but I need to know that text messaging will work. My girlfriend has an iphone and iphones do not receive mms only sms, will she receive messages I send with this setup? Thanks for your time and I apologize for my ignorance about how the Nextel text messaging system works. I know iden is a strange creature, I've had Nextel in the past.

Yes it will work. When someone sends you an SMS through another carrier you receive it as an mms. When you send a message they will revive it as an SMS unless it contains multimedia. So yes it will work with the iphone.
