Just looked at my iPhone today at 1pm and 3G seems to be active in the Dallas area! Can anyone confirm elsewhere?
This morning when I woke up and at 12:30pm it was still on EDGE.
I'm getting 1.6mbps down and about 325kbps up. Can anyone else confirm this elsewhere in Northeast PA where 3G service did not exist already? I'm assuming Hazleton probably lit up too.
Hazleton is still edge, as is mountain top. I don't see anything in my iPhone's field menu either.
It seems like they turned 3G on a few cell sites. I can tell it's running in the background on a few others - if I turn on airplane mode, turn it back off again, my phone will lock onto a 3G signal for a minute (about 3 bars or so). The signal will decrease then switch to full EDGE. So, 3G is definitely here it's just a matter of waiting for them to flip the switch everywhere. At least I get it at my house now.
I'm still waiting for my house. I'm between where the mount pocono and scranton 3g stop. Close to 84 and 690 in madison twp. There is a tower on 690 and 84 that is about 1mile from my house. How come it takes ATT so long to 3g their network when verizon has 3g almost everywhere?
No 3G. When i purchased the iphone 3GS in Nov they said 3G would definitely be here in the first quarter. When I called April 1st they said snow storms in Philly put them behind schedule, but 3G would be here by mid July. I then asked "What year?" Ping 1239 ms, download 120 kbps, upload 97 kbps. Woo Hoo! What a piece of crap company.
I called back in October last year and they never gave me a straight answer. I know it doesn't help you guys but I did notice a new antenna array on a Verizon tower down the road from me, and it was obviously an AT&T array because my phone reported full 3G where before I was lucky to get a bar..
They are improving, I just wish it was more timely, and more widespread.
I did have to reboot my phone to see the 3G. Still iffy.
According to the updated map (4/9/10), it looks like Mount Carmel, PA has 3G now. Wish they had it last year when I basically drove right through there.
I was in Dallas yesterday and my iPhone was still displaying EDGE all day until I went 3 miles south and 3G kicked on.
I just drove down 415 and 309 this morning. There was no 3G from the 118/415 intersection until I got down to the 309/415 split, then 3G kicked on until I got down to Trucksville.
It seems like its on/off for now, but coming soon for sure!
I have the same experience. I think it's activated on one tower in Trucksville, but within about a week of initially activating it, all the other ones had it running.
Also about the "5 bars everywhere" thing. Check it again. My iPhone sometimes will get stuck on 5 bars. one time it got stuck on full battery and my battery died when I thought I had a full one.
Anyways a 3G upgrade is imminent. The coverage maps as of 4/09/10 do not show any new 3G additions in the area, even though it was a day after they technically turned it on one cell site here. It's still kind of annoying as my phone hits a dead spot switching between 3G and EDGE in a place where I previously had perfect reception, albeit it being all EDGE.
Well, I never thought AT&T would actually read the responses from the "Mark the Spot" iPhone app, but lo-and-behold, they most certainly do! Check out this text I just got from them. Considering I get full service here now, I have no idea where they're going to put a tower, but it's still interesting.
