True, but if you notice, everything they are adding to their dumbphones are putting them closer and closer to modern smartphones. I wouldn't be surprised to see smartphones become the standard in a few years. It's very clear that that's the way the market is headed.
I don't think every device we see will be a smartphone. Smart phones will advance just like dumb phone do.
In a few years I can see higher end dumbphones being as good as the smarts phones of today are. BUT the smart phone of tomorrow will just more advanced. You will still see a distinct difference.
All they do is add stuff that smart phones can do.
I mean the EnV Touch seems to have made a big splash in the vzw martket.
I'm talking about being a heavy hitter, and making a big impact. There's nothing revolutionary about the enV Touch. It's just an incremental upgrade to the Voyager.
Ask someone who knows nothing about phones if they've heard of the enV Touch, then ask the same question about the iPhone or a major RIM release.

Sorry for the misinterprtation.
I agree! I was just talking to a friend a few days ago. Told her that I got a new phone and she said "Let me guess iPhone or BlackBerry". She does fall into that catergory of people who does not know much about cell phone. She doesn't know how to use BT and find txt messaging hard. THOUGH she did call BlackBerry BB.
Hopefully Motorola can put Android name on the market. I'm sure vzw and Moto will advertise the hell out of it though.

I guess the definition of a smart phone gets blurry depending on what phone you're comparing it to. But with Verizon's UI, there's a massive distinction between a smart phone and a Verizon UI phone. My old Sony Ericsson's UI can do so much more than even the Dare or the Krave and it was satisfactory enough whereas on Verizon, I'd need a smart phone just to replicate the functionality that I'm actually going to use
Aside from a QWERTY keyboard, push email capabilities and multitasking, what else is necessary for a phone to be called a smart phone?

The major one is the ability to add and remove the software of your choice.

Full permission Java would fix that... but like Hell Verizon will allow that on their dumbphones
Um, this is essentially what the upcoming Verizon App store is. Access to various applications, programs games, etc. of the user's choosing. And it's open to dumbphones too, not just smartphones. I wonder if that means that Verizon will finally snap out of forcing their UI onto every single dumbphone on their network?

It makes almost no sense on Motorola's part to launch the Sholes/Shules without the Android skin. Obviously they can't afford another phone sales failure like what their past few major phones were.

I'm sad. I was hoping for Snapdragon or Tegra action, especially if they are offering h.264 support. And an ARM processor running CDMA? This is a first to me. I really wonder how capable the phone will be with that much processing power.
Nice to have some more specific on the device that is for sure.
I highly doubt Oct will be release tho specially if it gets Android 2.0 on it for release. If we are lucky is will be end of Nov or early/mid Dec before we see it released. Last conversation I had about it " we'll be lucky to see if before the thanksgiving holiday, but should have it done and ready before x-mas, at least that is the plan".

Yeah, you will see my post over at the other forum says Verizon by Christmas.
If Motorola misses three Christmas in a row... they just can't afford to let it happen.
Nice specs. I like that they include an 8GB card. That is pretty generous of both moto and vzw. Has vzw ever bundled microSD cards with phones before?
Hopefully they will make the materials for this phone better then on the rival. When using the rival to talk on I could feel the phone slide a bit. I don't know if all slider phones with that design do that.

Blackberry Storm comes with a complimentary 8GB card.

I totally agree that they can NOT afford to miss another holiday shopping season without some type of phone to be moving. Specially something like this that could be a flagship phone to get them back moving again for a change. We've only wait for how long for something like this.
By the way thought you were to be enjoying a nice weekend getaway.......lol.
