That's good to hear. I assume I should be able to charge the phone by plugging it into my laptop then, correct? With a cord with USB micro on one end, and USB plug on the other end?

Yes. In fact its likely, considering that it's verizon, that you will simply receive a USB cable for your phone. On one end, will be a standard USB connector for your computer, the other end (hopefully a USB Micro end) fitted for your phone. In addition to receiving this wire, you'll receive an AC adapter that is 5V. You'll use the USB cable with your computer and the AC adapter.
Next question: If this device has a capacitive touchscreen are there any solutions for screen protection? I would guess that a regular plastic film protector won't work, as it wouldn't allow the charge from a finger to pass through the screen. Is this correct?
If so, how can we protect the screen from scratches?

Actually with most capacitive screens, screen protectors don't effect their ability to sense the current in your finger very much at all. In my experience with the iPod Touch, sensitivity wasn't affected at all. It's very unlikely that you have anything to worry about.

There are tons of plastic screen protectors that work just fine for the iphone, I don't expect this to be any different. Hopefully best skins ever or invisible shield will come up with a kit for this.
And technically, it is the charge passing to you from the device, not the other way around.
I read somewhere, here I think, that Google Maps is going to be turn-by-turn on the STD. I'm don't remember whether or not that's been confirmed yet, though.
we read about that on the androidandme letter leak. (that was later took down off the site.) It also had a lot of juciy info. but nothing confirmed.

I'm actually pretty interested in what material the screen will be made out of. I love the glass screens on my Storm and iPod Touch. I don't have screen protectors on either and they still look just like they did when they were new, even after a few drops each. Every phone I had before that was plastic and ended up looking like hell after a while. If its not glass then a screen protector is DEFINITELY going to be purchased...
They got the VZW "Droids" Trained well. lol .No info.
I tried to get just the name. Off of VZW Chatting. no luck..
