Does the fact that this phone has the android os mean that this is a smartphone ? I've been wondering if/when there will be a non-smartphone touchscreen successor to the Krave.

Yes. As of now anything with Android on it is considered a smart phone. There was a successor for the Krave announced called the Inferno (then renamed Torch). Last I heard the phone was canned.
For those that have seen the phone, it is worth waiting for this phone? I'm out of contract and want my next phone to be android but I don't want to commit too soon to T-Mobile if there is something good coming for VZ.

I didn't see the phone in person, Alixsyd I believe did.... I saw Pictures of the Shules and it looks like the LG Dare but with a slide out keypad. It will have android and will basically be the same as HTC's Hero with Adobe Flash supporting Java applications like playing games on the Internet or videos over the net.... I'm sure Verizon will find some way on limiting Java on the Internet pertaining to there sites only!
hardware wise yea it is a nice solid device for sure. Software wise it is hard to say as I didn't get to toy with it much and it was still a pretty rough OS running on it, at least the one I saw as it wasn't anywhere near being finished from what I was told. It does in fact look like it will be a very nice device tho when it does in fact get released.

Is the Shules metal or predominantly plastic, and does it have a nice solid heavy feel? Do you know what that last key on the slide out pad is for on the bottom left that has no marking on it?
^^Exactly which is why they haven't been posted as of yet. Personally I've had pics for a while now but was requested at the time to not post them anywhere which is why I haven't. And i won't until I'm told otherwise as I'm not here to step on toes or get anyone into trouble.
