I guess that's the stuff you get when you buy used. Sorry to hear about all that trouble.
Why not get the Krave? SURE the phone has it's quirks in the UI department but it's only $69 and from what I've heard the reception is right there with the E815. The UI also is not all that bad either. If you haven't I would give the Krave a try out first and see if you like it. I've had mine for going on a month and love it.
I just don't like the looks of the Krave. That and it would be very difficult to text on. I'm not sure if I like the idea of a full touchscreen because typing on my iPod Touch is such a pain in the backside. I think I like the idea of the qwerty keyboard, assuming the phone is thin enough.

I'm not sure how to get into field test mode with the Krave because its software is not Synergy-based like the E815. The commands may be different. The method is buried somewhere deep inside the 'Krave Release Thread' but I don't remember where.
Did the krave you played with have the new software? If not then YEAH it is. When I playing with it at my local corp store they did not have the latest f/w on it. And trust me it makes a HUGE DIFFERENCE. I guess it depends how heavy of a txter you are. I'm not huge into it so the kraves keyboard works great with me. Not as good as say a physical keyboard but it gets the job done.
@Choco
Yeah the rouge looks like a really nice phone. If you get it I hope it works out for you both in software and reception.
I really hope the final release looks more like the solid black, no chin, motofan.ru image than the recently posted phonearena image. The phonearena pic with its red-colored d-pad and stupid looking "chin" at the bottom would be a deal breaker for me, despite Android and all the other awesome features.
Way I see it Choco is you need to find a engineer or a contact threw Moto to get you a unit that will display as a test device in VZW system. Then you can have the phone you want and not have to purchase a smartphone data plan.
Fact is you aren't going to see any dumphone form VZW without there UI, and any smarpthone is going to force the data plan no matter what carrier you are with. All the carriers now have smartphone data plan being mandatory last I have heard unless some have changed there toon lately. However IMO what is the point of owning a smartphone and not having a data plan tho. Kinda defeats the purpose of having a smartphone specially seeing as the times have changed and carriers make big $ off data services these days as calling plans don't make them much money at all anymore. And if you notice recently all the new hype is relative to smartphone for all the carriers you don't see near as much talk about new dumbphones getting released. That being said you might as well look for a different device, but just my opinion tho.
What if someone sells you there test device, do you still have to pay data?

No point. It it a Motorola phone after all, and all the other smartphones are organized by maker (i.e Blackberry gets their own subfourm). All the Smartphones in that forum run WinMo anyway.
