ok, technically its called sholes ,name after the guy who invented the typewriter keyboard/qwerty. and if you google it enough youll find more info on it if you can read a foreign language.
and i have this funny feeling theyll be some more photos about to pop on the web in the next few days.
my own unit is a bit buggy but its usable and is kinda like the g1 meets a htc touch/meets dare.
Will the software be ready for an October release? I believe Renders of the Sholes were leaked first which i never seen.... then live shots of the phone came after.

I am under the impression that the picture of the Sholes just released is quite dated and is of an older prototype. Is the product as of now closer to the picture already released or is it closer to the render that surfaced a day or two earlier? In my opinion, the render's color scheme looks MUCH better. The one burning question I have is regarding that red 'D-pad' or what appears to be a directional pad on the qwerty keyboard attachment...is it seriously red? It looks so tacky and really hurts the ergonomics of the phone.

I thought you said you retired from the Secret Service
Seems the only people that are still fans of Motorola are a more mature crowd . Then again, we're probably just prudes, reminiscing the "better days of phones." Whatever it is, there's definitely a different vibe compared to the Samsung and LG forums.
And what's with verizon motos and having a red ringed D-pad/round part ("prototype" Shules, Rival, prototype Krave). Not only is it tasteless IMO, but it makes things look downright tacky.
Yeah, I can remember when Motorola phones were a premium and all LG made were the carrier branded phones (i.e. my old Bell Atlantic Mobile 330D). If you've only had a phone for 2-3 years, Moto hasn't really done anything to warrant special attention (on Verizon anyways). The RAZR2 was nice, but they never lowered the price on it enough to consider it over other comparable phones.
Hey. I may be turning 20 this fall, but I've had moto phones since the v120 (C and e)... In total I've had the v120c, v120e, v333, v60, v265, v710, k1m, v9m, and now the zn4. The newer ones may not have been that great, but I remember the days where my v710 and even my v265 BLEW the others away. Even to this day my moto gets better reception and a nicer call quality than any other phone I've used. So I may be 20, but if my loyalty to Moto means I have to be older, then I guess I'm older. HAHAHA! Now back to drooling over this new phone and praying it comes out ON TIME! :-D
Yeah. I guess my post got it going, but it certainly wasn't the meaning behind it.
All you have to do is spend a few minutes and each of these forums, and you'll see the point of my post (the folks who didn't see it to begin with, that is). I don't think it's about age. I think it's the attitude of the posters.
Lets face it. Being a Motorola fan requires a level of dedication that isn't necessary for LG and Samsung, these days. Simply put, it's been a very long time since Moto has released anything, even remotely, interesting. This forum doesn't attract a crowd that's interested in the latest hot release, and it really hasn't since... maybe... the MAXX. Because of the lack of interesting releases, the Moto forum doesn't get the hit-and-run type posters that the other forums get.
I suppose a phone like the Sholes could change that, though.
I have never owned a motorola phone before. None of their phones really seemed to appeal to me. I must say that I am enjoying the design on this phone at the moment and like the idea of having the android os on the phone as well. Looking forward to hearing more about it.

I guess we can look at the user base of the G1 to get a gauge for the market. Since it seemed everyone (as far as demographic goes) shows interest in the G1, there's no reason to think the Sholes won't get the same outcome.

Don't forget it will get a lot of hype for being vzws first android phone.
