    1. No. You will have to get it unlocked yourself.

    2. I doubt Nokia made a CDMA version of the E71. You would have to ask Telus. It works on 3G bands 850/1900. It will work on a Telus sim card. If you get it unlocked it will work with any sim. I don't know if Trinidad has 3G or what bands they run on.

thanks for the help w/g !!

just needed a quick answer and i knew where i would get the answers i needed

Trinidad does not have 3G. Has two phone companies(GSM)..
    TSTT/Bmobile - 900/1800
    Digicel - 850/1900

I was just usnure of Telus, cuz i know they were CDMA, so i found it odd that they sold the E71.. guess they carry both now

Isn't E71 quad band anyway ? so it wont really matter i guess

    thanks again!

Exactly. We are in almost 2010, and 2.36" with QVGA should have been phased out by now.

If there's an industry wide rejection of the E72 - maybe then Nokia will take a hint.

A highly unlikely scenario, but one can hope for it.

I agree with you on that high res would have been better. Also like you said a large screen shouldn't be a deal breaker either. I never owned a Bold, but I've used my friends a lot. Yes the high rez is nice, but I didn't like the hardware which includes: the bulky size, 2.0 camera (yes I know the e71's isn't great either), the creaky door (common bold problem), and the trackball ( I hate those)

I have not looked at the Bold 2 that much - however I have spent a lot of time researching the ONYX which would appear to be the only BB phone to pull me back (I used to own the 8320 and 8900).

    The bottom line...

Yes BB has been more proactive, but the e72 will be what the e71 should have been. I think many will be happy with the final product.

even though we more experienced smartphone users know better,

e7X & N-series, is where NOk get most of their profit from.

the initial trade reports are very positive , and i've felt and played with it, it is a definetly a good form factor and design itself along , and people will buy this thing just because it has a Nokia on it. They will easily sell these things by the droves.

WHich really sux for us smartphone users because theres no technology advantagement. So either wait til the next version or go and move onto a different manufacturer.

I think that e72 will probably be one of Nokia's all time best sellers. But I know better to buy of these until its at least a few months / under contract.

Personally, I think it will do very well.

Many of the current E71 users will upgrade and new-comers will pick the E72.

In particular as its OS bugs are fixed by Nokia and price starts dropping 3-4 months from now.

A higher screen resolution would have been great.
Not sure about a bigger screen, however.
To me the current form factor/ size/ weight is what makes the E72/ E71 such a pleasure to hold, carry and use. Don't change it!

After reading Jonty's take on the 9700, I am going to take a look at it in person.

In reference to other comments about the E Series being a "business phone", I think that segmentation is now out-dated. You guys remember when people use to justify the lack of a camera with the same line?

Devices should be able to do it all and do it well on the high-end.

Bostonirishguy - just want to let you know that your satement about those that text while driving are idiots is spot on. Two months ago a driver here in Texas killed another driver in an accident because of texting. The person texting survived the crash but the other person in the head on collision did not. I often wonder how the texter feels knowing that he took an innocent life just because he had to stay connected.

Exactly... I would be (ticked) off if they made it as big as the original Balckberry Bold.

After 3 months with the iPhone I recently put my SIM back in the E71 and this statement sums my feelings exactly. The feel of this phone in the hand is AWESOME, the build quality, the perfect size, the slimness, etc. I've been critical of the screen size and I really wish Nokia would have stretched the screen a bit vertically to add some extra size with a better resolution. But everyone who has owned/owns one knows exactly what I'm talking about, the phone is physically fantastic. Those with any interest that can physically hold the E72 and experience the build quality will be attracted to the package. If only Nokia can get the software right.

Is it too much to ask to make it the size of the 9700 then!?

Maybe.... But according to this recent Review the new size is coming at a cost.

Specifically, "The display is stellar, but it seems less bright than the 9000. The 9000's screen is comfortably viewed in almost all lighting conditions at 10%, with the 9700 I've had to kick it up to 100% brightness."

With that said, I still plan on checking out that phone. There's just too much hype for it and I'm interested in seeing if it lives up.

Will it draw me away from the e72? I don't see it happening. I'll take Symbian's OS over BB especially since I can skate by just fine with Symbian for both work and school. The hardware itself would really need to be a deal breaker for me.

That's an inconsistency among 9700's displays. I've got two 9700's and a Bold. They seem identical to me. Another Hofo user I'm in touch with 4mynikka has two 9700's as well, and one of them is not as bright as the other.

And your review seems to be the only one to have mentioned the display issue.

The one thing however that pissed me off is the reduced size from the 9000 - but compared to the E71 both the display's still perform better. Reading emails/browsing/whatever.

I know the E71 has 16M colours and all - but under sunlight both perform well.

I will surely get the E72 because me trashing the phone without owning it is not logically sound.

I'm sure Nokia will have botched something else on the E72 by the time it hits NAM markets.

Jonty, I am seeing that the 9700 looks a tad too thick on YouTube videos and on reviews videos. It's specs sheet says it's 14mm thick.

    How do you like it?

While we are free to discuss and express our opinions about phones here, I think this thread is getting abit out of hand. You guys are comparing the
BB 9700 to a phantom E72. There is only one member (that I know of) who has the E72, which is the Euro/Asia version. He's been nice enough to post his thoughts on it and that's great. But the E72 NAM has yet to be released and when it does, we can expect a lot more members with this phone. Until then, we cannot make a fair comparison to any phone. By fair comparison I mean you have the phone physically in your hands. I read reviews, but that's their opinion and how long do these reviewers actually use the phone? They have many other phones to review. The real critics are the users.

As I've said before, I do not have any loyalities to any manufacturer (well used to be Motorola). I love Nokia, Blackberry, Motorola and Sony Ericsson.
When I get the E72 NAM, I will post my personal thoughts on it compared to the 9700. Until then, I can't say the E72 will excel in certain areas over the 9700 and vice versa because I don't have the E72. That's only fair.

Nokia, release the E72 NAM already!

It's thick compared to the E71/iPhone but coming from the 9000 the phone feels very slim. Also, the size is "just right" so the thickness and the overall dimensions feel "just right". If you can, see if you can test out the BB tour/BB 8900 from T-mobile/ATT or just the 9700 dummy's if they are available and get a feel. The phone feels quite good in real-world usability.
