    prepaid plans

    Hey all,

I live in Montreal and I've been meaning to switch over to a prepaid cell plan for sometime now. After lots of research, Im still very confused about which provider to go with. I'd like to get an idea of which provider people generally prefer for a prepaid plan in that area.....just for some sort of guidance.....

    thanx in advance,

    pk

Bell/Telus are good because they offer all these amazing services through prepaid..even unlimited evenings and weekends.

Fido is good because they offer cheap rates no matter the time, you can have GPRS WAP through your phone.

Rogers, I have yet to figure it out..oh yeah, received calls from other paygo customers on rogers are free * if it hasn't changed yet.

They all have their advantages, if you don't mind technology, and want unlimited evenings and weekends, you could try bell or telus.

It depends on what you want and how often you make calls and other criteria. And, find the carrier that provides you with a good coverage in YOUR area. Keep in mind that what excellent coverage your friend gets may be crappy for where you are. No one carrier will give the best coverage everywhere.

If possible, borrow a phone from friends and figure how the coverage is where you are. Go to your workplace or where you usually travel to figure out the coverage. Make some calls and see whether they go through or get disconnected. Once you figure out the carriers with good coverage, THEN start looking at features and do the comparison then. There's no point in basing your decision on features if you don't even get coverage and can't make or receive a call. That is quite important.

For info on Rogers' Pay As You Go, check out the posting in the Rogers FAQ posting. There's a lot of info there about Rogers' prepaid. For others, post your question in the relevant forums.

maceyr67 makes some very good points...

i usually direct my friends to use fido prepaid since it's the best deal in town imho... prepaid was designed for ppl that don't use a phone much and need it for emergencies etc... so unlimited evenings and weekends is kinda stupid for prepaid.. why not get a regular plan and at least build some credit that way?
