Are you connecting via USB or Bluetooth?

I use internet sharing just fine, albeit slow for now..
But it has a random drop cycle, where it says the remote dropped the connection. Is there a reason for this? Is there a best known behavior to prevent this?
Thanks.

usb connection
I experienced this, too, last weekend. I chalked it up to poor reception - I was roaming.
it happens to me repeatedly, at home or elsewhere. my connection can last 20 minutes, or 2.. varies with no apparent reason. the phone reports the remote dropped, but the signal meter reflects an active connection. but that connection is dead, and must reset before useable by either the phone or the laptop.. kinda frustrating.
Might be when the data connection goes dormat, does not reconnect to the latop again? I have not tethered my HTC to my laptop much, but I do not recall having this issue. What OS are you running on your laptop?
Try running some sort of keep alive software on you laptop while tethered, or do a constant ping to somewhere.
I am typically in an active session, be it www, or RDP when it drops..
Give a try with wmwifirouter. You do not have to use the wifi, but it will also give a constant ping to google or wherever.
I tested this last night with mine. With ICS I logged on, and surfed the web, and chatted a bit on MSN. I was away from it for a few minutes, and it would not connect to anything anymore. The phone said connected, but no internet on my laptop. As soon as I reset the connection on my phone, it worked again on my laptop.
So, I tried it again, this time using wmwifirouter 3g to usb connection. I was listening to the replay of Howard Stern Show on Sirius for probably 2 hours without a drop.
Not saying that my issue was the same as yours, but throwing something out there for you to try.
