Can anyone with first hand experience confirm its true?
If it is true can it be flashed to a generic Moto Monsterpack?
I find it a rather odd that Sprint would have gone to all that trouble for what was an entry level phone. I was easily able to flash a Sprint Q to Verizon so to hear that Sprint V3m's are "special" hardware wise is suspicious.
The flash is real, that's usually how I flash v3m's to cricket.
I don't have much experience with the generic monster packs, I've only used them to "clear" all the data out of a phone before I flash to another carrier's firmware.
As far as the special hardware, I'm not sure. A quick search on google didn't come up with too much. Now from looking inside the two phones, they look similar to me (hardware wise), now don't take my word for it I'm not a guru.
But from my experience, I would say the verizon v3m monster flash would work on a sprint v3m.
I've done so much in screwing with the Sprint v3m and there is no difference in hardware. The models I had were from early 2007. Flashed several times, worked with generic DST flashes, and also VZW flashes.
I flashed mine to Alltel and Verizon with no problems. You just have to follow a certain procedure. Search around the forum and you'll find it. It involved something like unplugging it at a certain point when it was flashing and then doing it again.

Of course it may mean nothing, but I never had to follow any specific instruction. It would be of icebook's best interest to search and follow anything he finds. Don't risk a perfectly good phone with a bad flash and possible bricking.
