Sweet.. Backlit issues FIXED, and now my compass actually works for more than 2 seconds.. Those were my two big issues and it appears they are fixed...
I agree that this is the FW that should have shipped with the phone, but, with Nokia, we all know that we are getting Beta software with the first rev

So far so good for me. I was able to get it using the desktop app and it all went smoothly.
Unit seems a little quicker not and the backlight issue is gone.. Was hoping that we would get Skype in this one but I guess we will have to wait on that a little longer.

I changed mine in the setting to use only UMTS instead of dual GSM/UMTS and it works fine, calls websurfing and so on, no issues here.

i really wanted an ota update, but since we didnt seem to get it in north america, im going to have to do it via pc. am i going to lose all of my data (contacts, apps, and other settings) when i do the update via pc? i know i would lose everything whenever i updated my n95

No you will not lose any settings, the N97 is FP2 or something like that, that means all your settings stay the same, I just upgraded my N97 this morning via PC suite did not do any backup and when it finished with the update all my contacts settings etc were still there.
I updated mine this morning via PC Suite also. Thank you Nokia for not making NAM wait. Ahhhh it feels so damn good lol. Hopefully this update will bring better battery life too.

No you won't! [or rather shouldn't] It has UDP - User Data Preservation which saved all your data!
However, in my experience with technology, I would keep a backup of contacts [at the very least] for that slight possibility of something going kaput!!

I couldn't get NSU to recognize my n97 either, but then again the N97 wasn't displaying the USB symbol in the upper right. I have PC Suite on the phone from my n95 but thats not working. Then I updated Nokia Software Update, it updated, and as I said it still didn't recognize the n97. I'm installing the ovi disc and all its content that came with the phone, hopefully that works. Very frustrating though.
