I thought it was to prevent people from accidently answering/hanging up calls while the phone was in their pocket? The call button works after you press the unlock button. All of my devices with a "lock/unlock" button function the same way. That is, none of the buttons work until you press unlock.

Have you tried answering by using the unlock switch?

Keep in mind that we're dealing with a resistive screen here. So if the phone's in your pocket and somehow the call button has some pressure applied to it somehow, you've inadvertently answered the call without knowing it. If the call button was capacitive, then your point would have merit.

The fact that the phone forces you to slide to answer is actually the most sensible option considering the technology and interface.

Completely not true for nokia phones. ALL previous phones allow the green button to wake up during a call even with screen locked. N97 is the first to break this cycle and its utterly stupid. I've never once accidentally answered a call even with my 5800. Its impossible to do, and the 5800even has the on screen answer button as well as the physical button. No problems.

I'd really advise against using Ovi Suite as i found it seriously bad just go to the Nokia N97 support and download site and download PC Suite 7.1 that works brilliantly with the N97 IMO.

Just utter nonsense. The 5800 has the on screen answer button and there are no accidental calls answered. The bottom line is nokia tried to get fancy like the iphone and its an utter fail design flaw. My 5800 works the way it should be and there's no problems at all. This is another thing keeping me from upgrading to the n97 as small as you might think it is, its infuriating.

It seems that after I upgraded, I am no longer able to "Access the Internet using your cell phone data plan" (tether) from my Mac!

Was this disabled by Nokia? If so, in the NAM version only? If so, at AT&T's behest?

It would be a major reason for me to return the N97 and keep my N85. Not that I use it very often, but it is invaluable at times when I'm away for a weekend...

EDIT: User error, as usual. I no longer got that option because of a non-working iSync plugin I tried to hack together...

Well I think that's because most Nokia phones had physical green/red buttons. The N97 has touch buttons so you could easily press them accidentally while taking it out of your pocket, while I would rarely press my physical green/red buttons on my 5800 when taking it out of my pocket.

Although Nokia COULD be smart and make it so the green/red touch buttons could not be pressed when the proximity sensor knows its in a pocket or bag...

I'm not sure what the problem is? A 1 sec call button push vs a 1 sec swipe... It doesn't take any longer than pressing your button. Now if you want to measure it in milliseconds then the call button push wins. I have yet to find someone racing to answer a call without looking to see who it was first all the time. You say its impossible to accidently answer a call but if you google it you'll find a post on the Nokia forums with someone complaining about it. Just because you haven't had that problem doesn't mean others haven't.

I know this is an odd question but what applications were installed in the Mass Memory when you received your phone?

NSU doesn't recognize your phone. Does your computer recognize your phone? Sometimes the solution may be as simple as trying another USB port in the computer.

On all phones its possible to answer a call by accident. The one thing that is odd is all the touchsceen phones I have used that has also call keys allows you to use both. Dont get me wrong it dosent take longer just prefer having that option thats all
