NSU doesn't recognize your phone. Does your computer recognize your phone? Sometimes the solution may be as simple as trying another USB port in the computer.
might sound dumb.. but what mode are you connecting it in?
has to be pc suite mode and not mass memory or media transfer
I'm not sure what the problem is? A 1 sec call button push vs a 1 sec swipe... It doesn't take any longer than pressing your button. Now if you want to measure it in milliseconds then the call button push wins. I have yet to find someone racing to answer a call without looking to see who it was first all the time. You say its impossible to accidently answer a call but if you google it you'll find a post on the Nokia forums with someone complaining about it. Just because you haven't had that problem doesn't mean others haven't.
Yeah, that's much ado bout nothing. It works fine.

Just utter nonsense. The 5800 has the on screen answer button and there are no accidental calls answered. The bottom line is nokia tried to get fancy like the iphone and its an utter fail design flaw. My 5800 works the way it should be and there's no problems at all. This is another thing keeping me from upgrading to the n97 as small as you might think it is, its infuriating.

I understand if you're used to a certain work flow that a change can be really frustrating (Like for me, I absolutely dislike touchscreens, capacitive and resistive, but that's a rant for another time). However, my (extremely) limited experience with the 5800 is that its touchscreen is not as sensitive as the N97. And I have had experiences that have been contrary to yours about accidentally triggering the phone. In a few instances, I forgot to lock the phone, put it in my pocket, and then pulled it out again in a minute later only to find that I had launched some program. This was because my fingers had made contact with the screen while pulling the phone out. Of course, this only occurred because the touch screen had not gone idle and the autolock period hadn't elapsed. So it's normally not an issue.
But, considering that the screen does become active during a call, I could easily see (based on my experience) how I could accidentally answer a call while just pulling the phone out of my pocket. But like with everything else, just because something is probable for one person doesn't necessarily make it true for others.
I do believe that Nokia needs to be far more consistent in it's UI design from phone to phone, especially when it's the same OS version. If this option to answer calls by using the touch sensitive buttons was available on the 5800, they should've kept it the same or at least have an option to enable it on the N97.
On all phones its possible to answer a call by accident. The one thing that is odd is all the touchsceen phones I have used that has also call keys allows you to use both. Dont get me wrong it dosent take longer just prefer having that option thats all
I agree that Nokia should allow an option to satisfy everyone (or older Nokia users). I also agree that all phones have the ability to answer a call by accident. However, I think that Nokia's swipe implementation on the N97 gets you as close to 100% accidental-free call answers. I rather have this "safety" feature than having to deal with wasted minutes on my phone simply because I unknowingly answered a call everytime my phone is in my pocket.
I thought it was to prevent people from accidently answering/hanging up calls while the phone was in their pocket? The call button works after you press the unlock button. All of my devices with a "lock/unlock" button function the same way. That is, none of the buttons work until you press unlock.
Just change the theme to a non nokia. I've never used slide to answer. I'm using a cool black theme and I answer calls the way I used to with Nokia 5800.
i guess so. i just cringe at the thought of having to perform a gesture, even one as simple as a finger swipe, when all their previous phones allow you to just press the green call button. seems to have worked fine up till now with that method, even on the touch phones like 5800. the argument of accidental answering in your pocket can be applied to ANY of the previous nokia phones. i'm just not liking it at all and if ever there should have been an on/off toggle setting, this one is it.

I agree. I absolutely love that I can swipe it to answer/unlock. 5800 peeps need to understand the the N97 screen is ALOT MORE sensitive than the 5800 - thus easier to accidently answer in the pocket.

I've noticed sometimes when I answer a call now and the phone is locked (slide to unlock) after the call the phone just hangs on that screen and needs a reboot.. Anyone else have this yet?

I own both and I can agree.. The N97's screen is pretty much as sensitive as an iPhone (C screen)
Slide to answer is a nifty 'option' to have which CAN be turned off by simple theme change.I don't know why it's a big deal, unless you really love the Nseries theme, besides whatever theme, just using Green button. I answer by touching 'answer' or by pressing green button.
