*The Definitive Shortcut User Guide to the BlackBerry*

I am hoping to make this thread a compilation of shortcuts, productivity, and complete customization of the worlds most addictive device. If you have a tip or trick, or just want to add your usage methods, feel free to do it here. This thread is in hopes to help out new users, and some of the more seasoned users who may have forgotten some of this stuff.

    AutoText:

LD_ (_=space) inserts local date into a message.
LT_ (_=space) inserts local time into a message.
mypin_ (_=space) inserts your PIN into a message.
sig_ (_=space) inserts your lock screen message into a message.
myver_ (_=space) inserts your BB model/OS into a message.
usrid_ (_=space) inserts your user ID (whatever name you named your device) into a message.
mynumber_ (_=space) inserts your phone number into a message.

Change signal meter to numerical value:

Press the ALT key, and press NMLL to change to numerical value
Press the ALT key, and press NMLL to change to bar value

    View the Event Log:

Press the ALT key, and pres LGLG

    Soft reset:

Press the ALT key + the right Shift key + the Delete key

    Productivity:

All of my personal email addresses are entered into AutoText. For instance, HeavyFluid@gmail is entered as hf_(_=space)

    GMail:

Do you use GMail? Do you get an email everytime you send one? Log in to your BIS and set a filter. For each email address that you use, set a filter. Name your filter, and then in the Apply Filter When: box, select "From" field. Enter your email address in the Contains: box. Then select Do Not Forward Messages To Handheld. Save, and you have just created a filter.

Change the Signature of your email on your device:

While in BIS, select the email account that you would like to edit. Where it says Signature: edit what you would like it to say. Then save it.

Wow, thanks Heavy for sure! Very helpful and awesome for new users... Possible sticky, and edited/revised as new things come in?

How about turning the "Dial from Home screen" off and you have loads of shortcuts:

    "F" - Profiles
    "N" - BBM
    "C" - Compose (typically email)
    "V" - Saved Messages
    "B" - Browser
"M" - Message (Email unless you have them grouped then both)
    "L" - Calendar
    "K" - Keylock
    "D" - Memopad
    "S" - Search
    "A" - Address Book
"W" - Wap Browser (unless you have Berry Weather then it's that app)
    "T" - Tasks
    "U" - Calculator
    "O" - Options
    "P" - Phone

I think that's the whole list...did that from memory lol

I didn't want to have too many stickies, but if this thread gains popularity, it may have to get stickied.

That Gmail tip alone is worth its weight in Gold HF.

Thanks danny.boi. Just trying to pass on anything I can to other members and help as much as I can. I know when I found that GMail filter thing, whooooo, I was glad.

With the new update that T-Mobile did on BIS I don't need to apply the filter anymore

    Wirelessly posted (BB Curve 8330: BlackBerry8330/4.5.0.160 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/126 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3)

Alt+NMLL is genious! Great idea for a thread btw. I also think we should tack this to the top of the forum. To add a couple minor shortcuts:

Holding a letter to get it to change from lower to upercase.

Double click spacebar at the end of a sentence to get a period. Or in the email 'to' field to get the @ and then the period.

From the browser you can click 'R' from within a page to get it to re-load. 'F' to search the page, 'DEL' to go back, 'T' for top of page, 'B' for bottom, 'space' to page down, 'G' to enter a URL.

When going through pics or music hit 'N' for next or 'P' for previous.

A lot of my users who use full Qwerty Berry's complain that they can't dial numbers when in letter format like: 1-800-COMMUTE.

They don't realize they can just hold the Alt button down while typing each letter and the call routes to the right destination as intended each time.

    Try it yourself: 1-800 Alt C / Alt O / Alt M / Alt M / Alt U / Alt T / Alt E + SEND
