According to bcnranking.jp the 32GB iPhone 3GS is the #1 seller in Japan and the 16GB version is #2. SH-06A and 830P are #3 and #4 respectively. Just thought this might be interesting to some (people who said the iPhone would fail in Japan since keitais are better?) FYI I'm still not saying the iPhone is better though
According to the website the info is taken from sales in Yodobashi, Bic Camera, Best Denki and a few other major retailers in Japan.

Current: SoftBank 007SH, Galaxy Note, iPhone 4S [64GB]
Yeah the info references GfK Japan marketing data, so it's accurate.
This would be the influx of early adopters and mad fans updating from their iPhone 3G early; I wouldn't expect this result to last any more than one more week. It's all about volumes - they'd be shipping a huge amount of iPhones to dethrone the SH-06A, which has been the number one seller until this week and has 2.5 times the potential market of the iPhone (based on current market share - docomo 50.6% vs SoftBank 19.3% as of May).
It will probably remain as the top selling phone in SoftBank's ranking for weeks yet, but I'd see it dropping from top overall position later this month.
Just noticed- poor SH-06A. Big and harsh 'DOWN' sign lol.
The ranking's going to fall for sure- it's just that Apple knows how to sell 'em (most buyers buy phones as soon as they come out if they want one) so it's not surprising it's going to fall soon. You don't see people flooding into stores for iPhone 2Gs anymore
