W705 SEUS Update not available after sucessfully changed CDA!!! ???

So I found a different workaround. My method will not get AMERICA MAIN and FS, but it will debrand your phone and allow you to add any languages you want:

Find a custpack from the list here:

I used W705_1220-9230_R6A_Customized_Hong_Kong but any will work.
Obviously don't choose any branded custpacks (ORANGE, Telstra etc.).
Your custpack doesn't have to have any languages that you will need... we will be adding languages later. This is only to debrand your W705!

To see what languages already come with certain regions, look here:

Extract Customize.xml from the custpack zip file: \tpa\preset\custom
Edit Customize.xml with a text editor and modify the various language fields to suit your needs... so if you need English and Canadian French, for example, you want to have these fields only:

<allowed-language>en</allowed-language>
<allowed-language>cf</allowed-language>

Since Canadian French isn't in any region except AMERICA, we need a workaround. So this is just a placeholder for the languages. You will be adding the language files later, but you need to have them listed in the Customize.xml ahead of time. English is always included in every region, so don't need to go looking for the file later on.

Also change:

<default-language>en</default-language>

so that it is English.

This is for convenience, because some custpacks (i.e. HONG_KONG) will default to another language when you first power your phone, so this will be a lot easier to navigate

Overwrite the Customize.xml back into your custpack .zip file. It's easier to keep the custpack in .zip format for A2Uploader later on.

Note 1: Make sure you find a MAIN_GENERIC and FS_xxx to match your custpack.
i.e. if you picked HONG_KONG custpack, then you need MAIN_GENERIC and FS_HONG_KONG.

Note 2: To debrand a Rogers W705a, you MUST choose both FS and MAIN to be RED53.

Note 3: MAIN_GENERIC and FS_xxx must be the same number.
i.e. both should be R1EA033 or whatever your choice is.

If you are finding it too hard and just want a list of all 3 files that will work, feel free to use these...

You will lose ALL data on your phone when you flash it with new firmware!

Make sure your battery is full and proceed to flash your phone as instructed here with A2Uploader:

After you power up the phone, it will take a LONG time (5 mins or more), so be patient!

Congratulations!! Your phone is now debranded!



To add new languages to the phone:
Find which region has the languages you want and extract them. So for example, if you want Canadian French (cf), download any AMERICA_FS and extract it using read3150. You can find read3150 here:

Extract the FS and then navigate to \tpa\preset\system\language
You should see cf.lng and fr.t9 and some other languages.


Turn off phone and remove battery.
Connect battery but do NOT power phone on.
Open A2Uploader and press FileSystem Tool.
Hold "C" on the phone while connecting cable to PC.
After a few secs, your FS will be displayed.

navigate to tpa/preset/system/language
upload fr.t9 and cf.lng (drag and drop)
delete lng.dat and lng.lst
create new "allowed_language.txt"
it is a very small file, with only language codes on the first line of the file:
i.e. contents of allowed_language.txt can be "en, cf"

*IMPORTANT: make sure to SHUTDOWN FS in A2uploader by pressing the red button before disconnecting phone.

Power up and you are good to go!

Keep in mind that you won't be able to remove the default writing languages from the phone if your FS included them.

So for example, if you used HONG_KONG FS, then you can never remove Chinese from the writing languages menu of the phone, but this shouldn't be a big deal.

I debranded my W705 2 days ago through wotan server cause I had a credit on there from before.

I chose R1GA026 CID53 and I've input all the Rogers info to try and connect to internet but it still doesn't work. And for some reason my Wi-fi also doesn't work when trying to Rogers Cable.....

Anyone have any ideas? Please Help

i just used cda file maker and put on the adriatic firmware, i still cant get sony update service to recognize the north american firmware

i found adriatic, and i think nordic and western europe to work just fine

everything works perfect on my phone the only problem ive had is finding a server for my email and instant msging using rogers, and neither rogers or sony were a help in that department

as for 3g internet, wifi, bluetooth, applications all that stuff works perfect

Just an FYI for the thread:

I've debranded my Rogers w705a by going to the UK generic CDA. The SEUS changed the software.

I also changed it back to Rogers by generating the CDA punching in 1221-8224 R11A and SEUS changed the software back to the Rogers R1FA035.

I haven't tried going to UK and back to America and see what software I get but I assume it would work since I went back to Rogers CDA and s/w.

The main reason I changed back was because I couldn't get my WiFi to connect to my home network, which was working great with the before I debranded it.

Also, when you go to Menu->Settings-> it was a list structure rather than tabbed like the Rogers' s/w version and there were still a bunch of files in the Games and Apps directories which were protected.

I didn't play around too much since the WiFi was the main thing I wanted form the phone so I went back to Rogers. Turns out, my WiFi still doesn't connect to my network! So something else has been changed that needs solving.

I just got the phone so I didn't realise you can't use any mp3 file for a ringtone! I was hoping that with debranding I could set the Internet and Streaming to use the WiFi connection instead of Data connections (I don't use data). I'll probably try debranding it again later after I find out what the real benefits are.

I'll have to try it again sooner than later I guess.

Update: I debranded it again, this time using Western Europe 1209-4774 Rev 6A.

SEUS updated the software and I can now use mp3's as ringtones.

My WiFi is still not working. I'll have to try figure that out before I can play around with RSS feeds, etc.

Not sure if it matters but I was doing some more looking and the OP was trying to use CDA 1209-4778 which is listed as a C905 CDA not W705. Maybe if you use that CDA and select C905 on SEUS it'll work?

I'm thinking the reason my WiFi isn't working is because I don't have the right custpack for the firmware I'm on now, R1GA030.

It's weird that WiFi wasn't working for you. Maybe your router settings have changed? MAC filtering or something?

BTW, to delete protected games and apps, use A2Uploader and navigate to
TPA \ PRESET \ SYSTEM \ AMS

Then upload a blank file with identical filename.extension to overwrite it. Now you can delete your blank file

For your wifi , its a router problem having difficulties with the DHCP. I ran into this problem with a recent DLINK router. I solved it by entering a static ip adress in the phone. You can also try to remove and reinsert the battery.

I debrand my phone with the Western Generic firmware using se cda file maker AND seus. everything work great.

some observation:

Main screen (wallpaper animation) is now quite stutering... with the rogers , that appened only when the phone was ''loading'' something in the background.

Many little bug are fixed and the phone is now working great except the shortcut button that seems to stop working after several operation like starting the web browser...

RSS app is great!

Facebook APP is gone. I've read that for some region some app are not installed for '' i dont remember why''

So

What is the best GENERIC regions firmware including google map AND the facebook AND the Youtube APP installed in it? And does someone know if 3g used for voide on ROGERS network? or 3g only used for DATA and 2g for voice AND/OR data? I turrned this option off as I don't have a data plan...
