I have a Verizon SMT5800. Works great but the keypad sucks and breaks all the time. I bought a HTC S720 off ebay, this is the same phone, just swap the phone PCB right in.

However, the slide-out keyboard is messed up. The top and bottom rows are shifted, and the symbols are completely different. This is because the HTC keyboard driver still expects to return scancodes from the Verizon (UTS) keyboard.


The solution is to use a registry editor like PHM and change the following value:
HKLM\Software\HTC\UTS\Keyboard from 1 to 0


I'd recommend this - I like the HTC shell, plus they're cheaper on ebay.
