have you heard of success with a htc droid eris? I'm new to pp, but interested in taking the android route, if it's supported

Joined PP after two year contract with ATT was up. Initially got a Motorola W385, got fed up with Bluetooth repeatedly connect/disconnecting from my Nuvi 680. Wanted something similar to my trusty Nokia 6300, just got a LG Env3 off Ebay. Bought it new in hopes it's not a refurb lemon with all the bug complaints. Followed the Wiki and got WAP internet working with my 1200 plan.

nice. but be careful with the net. i would recommened just using wap sites rather than viewing it like you would on a desktop.

checking my e-mail, going on here, updating facebook and myspace, and other small tasks have been good as long as im using the wap site, and my 50mb has been stretching a long way on my voyager.

Yea I've had first hand experience with data overcharges. A couple of years ago when I was with Verizon I had a palm 650 that broke and I upgraded to a Samsung pocket PC phone. Unknown to me getting the new phone meant upgrading my Verizon contract. I used to get data for free, then on my first monthly bill it was a couple hundred bucks. The LG comes with a data counter and I only plan to check my email with it.

I'm using my 3-yr old LG VX8600 at the moment. Waiting impatiently for my new Droid to come in the mail any day!

another person who is gonna have data problem....i put a droid on PP for my sister's bf and he went through 50mb in 2 days....check everywhere you go for a wi-fi signal then just use the alloted mb's only when needed. i went through 20mb in a week on my imagio. im considering a droid eris now but i dont have wi-fi anywhere besides school and i have to concentrate on my work, not my facebook

That's my plan. I have wifi & home & work. Seeing as 85% of the time I'm at one or the other, I'll use wifi there. And why not - should be faster that way anyways.

when wi-fi isnt available, try to use wap sites to make the mb's stretch through the whole month. im working on creating a list of wap sites that people can use for quick access.

I've taken the time to pick through the 15 pages of this thread and created an Excel file with all the phones mentioned and the quantities. (The LG VX 5500 and the Samsung Smooth are tied at 15 each BTW).

Is there a way you can include it in the WIKI that exixts (if there is any interest) ??

Stick to WAP browsing. HTML browsing will eat data like nuts.

I'm not sure about the Droid but many smartphones have limited user control on how you browse. I used to have an ATT Tilt and I had ATT turn off data access because I couldn't figure out a way to keep the Tilt from accessing 3G even with Wifi available.
