In any event, I just so happened to run across what I thought was a fairly nice deal on the LG VX4700 from an online dealer for $9.99. Shipped to my door, the total cost was $18.08. Yeah, it's retro, but I only need a phone for making calls, although I am dabbling a bit with texting now that I am on Page Plus. Actually, I was looking for a 'senior citizen' phone. It's not that I am a senior citizen or technically illiterate (I have run Linux since March 2001), I just needed a cell phone that serves as a phone only, or mostly.
I had no issues whatsoever activating the phone, adding the 1200 minutes and text plan, placing calls, sending and receiving texts, setting up contacts, etc. I did try the built in web browser strictly out of curiosity. It loaded the Verizon web page, after which, I promptly turned data off. My Page Plus account then showed the available data left as 49.98 MB. I assume the missing .02 MB was from loading that one web page. PTT (push to talk) shows as inactive, but other than that, everything else on this phone works seamlessly with Page Plus and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The phone actually looks brand new, although I am sure it is used/refurbished, particularly since the box had already been opened.
It makes me giggle to be carrying around such on old phone, but I get quite a kick out of the retro nature of it. It wasn't easy to find a phone without a webcam, or all the other crap which is crammed into cell phones these days.
