Vzw iPhones have always been compatible with PPC. In fact, they were even "allowed" briefly by PPC. However, that was misinformation that PPC management had communicated, and that was being passed on to customers through PPC CS.

At this time, iPhones are not officially "allowed" by PPC. But they are still compatible. If you already have a Vzw iPhone, it probably won't hurt anything to put it on PPC, although there is always the possibility that Vzw and/or PPC could kick it off of the PPC at some point in the future. If you DON'T already own an iPhone, I would suggest thinking long and hard about spending money on one to try to use on PPC.

I'd like to go with a Motorola Droid A855. Does anyone know of a reliable place to buy one? There are a lot of them on eBay, but mostly they're selling returns and refurbs as "new", so you never know what you're really getting.

I bought my Droid 3 on Ebay. And it turned out fine. I think the key with fleabay is buy from a seller who has hundreds or thousands of sales and great feedback. If it's not stated in the listing ask about a clean ESN. I read the forum (and others) to see which phones were allowed on PP. Good luck.

Details & Specs

I'm unfamiliar w/ the specs of phones over the past couple of years. I was under the impression Samsung was a top-tier brand, but after reading this thread from Feb 2010 to today. There's not a lot of Samsung posts.

My wife prefers the Slide-out QWERTY keyboard w/ a better camera than 1.3 MP, and a larger screen than 2.4". A good battery & solid reliability is most important to me. Trying to get phone(s) that we'll be able use more of the newer technology as we become accustomed to it.

Prefer new, yet eBay, Cowboom, CL are options. Any other sources and/or reviews? I know about CNET, Amazon. Having trouble figuring out good search terms for eBay. Typed in "new samsung cdma verizon phones qwerty keyboard" on eBay yesterday & got 8 hits. I'm a little behind the curve wrt narrowing the search. We just need to get rid of our dinosaur T-Mobile prepaids and start saving money.
Our dog chewed through the charger cord.

    Any help is much appreciated.

I would recommend the LG touch. It's not a slider. But it does have a physical keyboard. It just opens up instead sliding. Since it's not a smartphone you shouldn't have a problem with being worried about data(unless you wanna surf the net a little, and that shouldn't take up that much data. You should be able to find these on ebay for probably less than 50 dollars.

I would also recommend the palm pixie or the plam plus pre. Now with these you would have to worry about data but you can always turn data off and just use wifi. You can find these on ebay too. The pixie's should be around 30-40 dollars. The pre plus around 50-60. I just bought a pre plus for 59.99 on Ebay. Brand new.

When searching on ebay just state the name of the phone. Hit the enter button and it take to you to page displaying what you searched .Then on legend on the side of the page scroll down until you see "condition" and click New. For instance if you were looking for an apple iphone 4s. Type in "apple iphone 4s" hit enter and the page will come up displaying all sellers who are selling as iphone 4s. On the side of the page scroll until you see condition, and then click new. The page will then display all sellers new iphones.

    Hope this helps!!!

Just FYI, there is no phone called "LG touch". From the description, perhaps you mean LG enV Touch?

Also, Palm Pixi Plus is available brand new from Amazon for $42.50 (as of right this moment), but can often be found for around $35.

I meant LG Env touch. Typo. Thanks for the amazon additions. I don't use amazon. I mostly stick to ebay and what I've seen on is what I posted in my earlier post.

I have an epic 4g and 2 evo's on PP. I am phasing out one of the evo's though as a digitizer replacement did not go as smoothly as it should have... Bugger is flaky as heck anymore. =(

We had two Palm Pixi's but just switched to the Droid A855. We still have a LG8350 for a biking/hiking/backup phone but will probably pick up a W385 for that.

May 2012.....being a newbie to virtually all things cellular I purchased a LG VX 9900 enV 1 after having been told by PPC csr and PPC dealer that it was a new phone. I took this to be a later model. Boy was I wrong and mislead.....model came out over 7 yrs ago and this phone is refurbished and I am not able to access any of the features with the phone except calling/texting. It would appear that after over several hours with PPC csr's that I just wasted my $$. This was like buying a used car w/out an engine ! I live and learn....I hope !

There is no way a PPC CSR told you that a phone you were buying from an independent dealer was new. They would have no way of knowing what the dealer was selling. Also, you didn't research the phone you were buying? Wow! Anyway, all you have to do is search Google or here on HoFo and you'll find instructions on how to modify the programming on that phone so you can change the settings. It is a good phone, for what it is, a simple feature phone. I know a lady who still uses one, and she still likes it.

It seems like just an on the spot decision, which usually doesn't lead good outcomes. Research of some type n amt is almost mandatory thesr days 4 buying electronics, given the variety and the rapidity of innovation out there. A new phone's value can b degraded substantially in the space of jus 2 months. I'm also prett shocked that some rep actually tried to pass off the envy 1 as a new model, that is smthg that's jjust way over the top, and a horrendous indictment of the syste if true.
