Keep in mind that your iPhone will be limited to EDGE connection speeds because T-mobile uses the 1700 mhz frequency for 3G and that is not available in the iPhone. Cannot install any software to change that.

    Of course, you can
Please do yourself a favour. Use a old Tmobile phone and write down the IMEI, than call Tmobile and told them you want a basic data plan 9.99. Than do not told them you have a iphone. After this Tmobile actiative your internet service. you will be all set to go online. REMEMBER do not told them you have a iphone.
    Enjoy your iphone.

Ah, this makes me miss my first gen iPhone on T-Mobile. I've heard the epc.tmobile.com works, and there's also something else you can enter there... but I can't recall that. I had the iPhone on the prepaid sidekick plan, but was too lazy to try to get data to work, just used WiFi. But give it a shot and less us know what happens!

T-Mobile may detect the IMEI of your iphone and prompt you to upgrade to the $25 data plan....just a heads up

Very true. In my quest for the perfect phone I switched and experimented with at least seven different unlocked and carrier phones. Upon finally deciding to keep my iPhone 3G I talked to a friend that works for T-Mobile to resolve an upgrade issue. To my surprise he was able to access a log of all of the devices that I have had on their network including the phone model and IMEI numbers. This list read like a small novel, but yes they can determine exactly what phone you are using on their network. Choose your data plan accordingly folks... A few bucks savings my not be worth it in the long run...

I wish I was that lucky. I have had my Iphone 3GS for less than about a month and 1 week in they told me I had to upgrade over the phone. It knew I was using a smart phone. The price is a pain because it really isn't faster than what I was getting for $9.99. I tend to not even use the internet as much because it's so dang slow.

No. I don't work for T-Mobile. Just trying to provide a little info. The people that are able to use the lower priced plans are very lucky. I was using T-Zones for a while also. Not trying to be the Data Plan Police. Just giving a response to the post... Although I wouldn't mind working for T-Mo if free phones were one of the perks!!
