"The $30 prepaid doesn't have unlimited internet. Once you hit 30MB, the internet cuts off."

Funny, I was just relooking at those plans and the weekly/monthly data options, and was starting to see what you say.

Being horribly out of step with the modern disease of constant connection and push apps, I'm fine with waiting until I'm on wifi somewhere. Nothing is that important that I need it NOW. YMMV.

    New plan saves me!

I HAD the grandfathered “Unlimited Loyalty” for $89 (for two lines / unlimited calls), + $39 for additional line, + $10 unlimited family texting, + $60 for data ($20 each line for “Preferred” Android X 3) = $198 - 15% corp discount on features ONLY (didn’t work on “Unlimited Loyalty” base rate) = $181.65 ($60.55 per line). Not bad?

The plan I switched to was just a tiny bit higher, but the corporate discount applies to the entire plan, so it ends up being even less.

$99 for two lines (including texting) + $30 for additional line + $60 for data ($20 each line for “Preferred” Android X 3) = $189 - 15% corp discount on entire plan = $160.65 for THREE lines of unlimited everything ($53.55 per line), which is less than even Cricket, Boost, or MetroPCS… let alone Verizon or AT&T!

At the end of the day, it’s really NOT about the money. I’d pay more for a better service if one existed, but to have the best service AND pay less than almost anyone else, well, that IS pretty satisfying.

Excellent! Just to quibble, MetroPCS will give you all that for a flat $50/mo including taxes. But you don't have to prepay and have better coverage.

If the merger goes through, I'll probably switch to MetroPCS. My brother has been with them for six years and overall is very pleased. I sure as hell won't go AT&T!

MetroPCS coverage is nothing compared to T-Mobile. They dont have that much native coverage and heavy roaming isn't a viable option.

ITA, I'm on a plan with my sister and her husband and it expires in June 2011 so I'll probably migrate to MteroPCS then. It's got decent signals in my area and I've known several people who use it. The only complaint is the slow internet. I can live with that :-)

Still our plan is nothing special, but it keeps us happy? You know as I think about it, I think my sister might have been able to negotiate better, she's been a customer since leaving for college in 2002. I've only ever used tmobile, but am more sporadic. I got a line in 2003-2004, moved to the middle of nowhere and got rid of it and got a new plan in 2006-2008 when I moved out of the country and returned in 2009 and have been back with tmobile ever since. Yeah, mine cell history was much more sporadic then my sister's. :-)

    Our plan:
We have the 750 minute family plan with free nights(9PM-7AM) and weekends and mobile to mobile(which is good but not useful since the only tmobile subscribers I call are my sister and my aunt) $59.99
    Add a line $5
    Family Unlimited texting $20
    Unlimited web2go for 2 lines $20

No discounts because none of us work for any big employers or have any other qualifications :-( It usually comes to $124 or so between the 3 of us so I get $42 for unlimited texting, internet, and only 250 minutes, but I have a direct vonage line at work and use that for a lot of calling. It's still almost what I was paying before. I used to work for the state and got a 15% discount and paid $40 for 500 minutes with myfavs and nothing else. The discount pretty much took care of the taxes and fees on the line.

You could get a 14% discount by being a PTA member. The one time membership fee is $6 to $10 depending on the school.

Just a note on how I am using the $30 1500 minute/text prepaid to get a lot of use for little money. First of all, I have to say that I am using a Nokia E73 Mode. This phone, while it is a little outmoded, has several advantages. One - it's cheap to buy a good used one. It is a full smart phone with good GPS capabilities. It has UMA (more about that later). And, it's rugged/dependable/well-made *Nokia/Blackberry* style phone.

The $30/mo 1500 minutes or text is enough for me in that department... if you're one with a cauliflower ear from having the phone pasted there all day ... stop reading now. It won't work for you. Most unlimited plans don't easily show you how many minutes you use each month, but you may be surplriwed that this is enough. Then, becase there this is a smart phone, you need to decide how much time you spend near a Wifi access point. With the addition of SmartConnect, available on the Nokia Store, you can automatically connect to wifi when available and save your 30Mb for when you need them. I have wifi at home, of course and most of the time at work... so ... no problem. I avoid data hogs like streaming this and that when I am on 3g. Next UMA takes care of many of the coverage issues with T-Mobile. Look it up and see what it can do. I have used UMA in other countries, and in the deep woods where no one has coverage, but ther is a Wifi connection... Paris to New York, just a local call!!! Next I to CallingMart to buy my refill cards and get 5% off with no sales tax, and usually have a savings code available on-line for additional savings and the $30 refill costs $28.50! Thats it. No other problems and good to great coverage
Born over 64 years ago, naked and helpless, I have overcome these handicaps with the help of many others.

Pretty much how I see things, too. Before I left my unlimited post paid plan for the prepaid, I looked at all my old bills for several years. Most months I used 800-1000 minutes talk time. Only once would I have gone over 1500 minutes and it was an unusual month. I also had to pay for texts, either 20 cents each or $5 more for unlimited. So, I went from something like $55/mo to $30 with no less service.

At the time I was using a Nokia 9300, which soon thereafter died (Kudos for Squaretrade Warranty. They paid up after asking a few reasonable questions.) I bought a TM Slide Android, figured it was time to join the touchscreen with optional keypad age. I hated it. But since I was playing a lot with GPS and other away-from-wifi data, I bumped my plan to the $50/mo unlimited talk with unlimited, if throttled, data.

I then bought a Nokia E90, what a relief at so many levels. I also gave the Android another chance, but I'm back on the Nokia.

Thanks for the post, I'm reminded I should just drop back to the $30/mo plan next month.
