Paid the $199.99.
BTW, you should check the sticky from Antenna about what each data plan will actually get you. Remember that without the right data plan the MT3G is a pretty paperweight. Albeit, pretty indeed.

Well, I been thinking of doing a handset upgrade on one of my eligible lines and using the MT3G myself, but since T-Mo is now requiring a DATA contract on the upgrade line, I'd either have to pay $199.99 + monthly data plan (that the line wouldn't use), or pay $399.99 (partial upgrade eligible) for my line.
(and btw, I think the rep said $14.99 unltd text counts as a data plan)
I understand that T-Mo is subsidizing the cost of the phone with the data plan requirement and all.......
Are people paying $399.99 for their MT3G?

Oh, I don't have a problem paying the data plan cost, currently I have a Blackberry plan @ $24.99 and I think the Android plan is similar and wouldn't mind switching. It's the phone cost. $199.99 is much more attractive than $399.99.
Oh for sure. To be honest, I don't know of anyone that was able to get it for under $199.99. Of course I didn't dig too hard knowing that I would be plunking down the penny-under-200-dollars price. My brother-in-law has gone 4 years without an upgrade, his fault really, and he paid the same I did. I just laughed.
Surprised no one has mentioned this:
1. Go to Bing.com.
2. Search for "t-mobile".
3. Click through the T-Mobile banner at the top which mentions 35% cash back.
4. Ensure that you see the Bing Cash Back logo on the product page before adding to cart.
5. You'll pay full price ($199.99), but you will get back 35% within 60 days, bringing your bottom line down to $130.
More discussion here and here.
I paid $249.99 on upgrade for a 1-year contract.
$199.99 on an upgrade for a 2-year contract.
